Could someone tell me how it is that USCIS first notifies you of action on your case? I am desperately waiting to hear on the progress of the I-130 I submitted for my wife. I feel we are past the point at which action should have been taken. I keep checking the USCIS website looking for something other than "My Case Was Received," however, I'm wondering if that is a waste of time. Will I received a new I-797 in the mail prior to the website being updated? Just curious. My thought is that they probably don't update the website immediately so maybe I should stop checking until I have received the I-797 in the mail.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Hey Jeff, maybe I can help. You are correct, USCIS does a very poor job updating your case on their website. For example, my case was accepted on November 20th and I received my I-797 in the mail on November 24th. It is now November 29th and the website has yet to update my case pass “Case was received”.  So yes, the website is not 100% trustworthy. I just viewed your timeline, and saw you sent your I-130 in March. Potomac currently has a 9.5 - 12.5 months wait time. They are currently doing case inquiries for December. You have another 4 months before you can inquire about your case. Even if you contact them, they will tell you the same. I would say, still send a case inquiry and see what they say back. Maybe that would push them to make efforts on your case. Anything to help the situation I always say. I’m sorry brother, this waiting game is horrible. Hang in there, and keep fighting.

Thanks Rell22. I've actually done a few case inquiries as well as written my Senator and had her do a couple of case inquires. And yet, my wife and my case is one of only a handful of cases from March of 2018 on this website that hasn't been processed yet. This makes me wonder if having done as many inquiries as I have done has possibly done damage as opposed to good? I have no idea. Especially annoying was my latest response from USCIS that pointed to the 9.5 to 12.5 month processing time that they are showing on their website and then went on to say that they try to process cases in the order that they are received. Never mind the fact that I can see on this website cases with acceptance dates from April, May and even June that have now been processed ahead of mine. It leaves me with little faith in the integrity of the process.

Thank you again. I do appreciate the reply to my question.

The old website updated to "case was approved" on 11/28 (noa1 5/22). I got a notification on my tracker app the same day then two days later I got the approval letter in the mail also dated 11/28.  It seems to differ from case to case. Some people won't hear until they get the letter in the mail, some see an update on the new site, the old site, both, or neither.
