USPS lost AOS packet

My wife is on a K1 visa and we sent her AOS I-485/EAD/AP application off on Monday of last week (the 19th) via Priority Mail, coming from Las Vegas. It was supposed to arrive at the Chicago lockbox on Wednesday (the 21st). Since Wednesday night the tracking has said, "Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility." We thought if it was late Thanksgiving might then delay it by another day, but it has now been more than a week since we sent it. We contacted USPS who now tell us they are unable to locate the item.

We are considering sending a second packet (via FedEx this time), but I am worried about what to do if the first does end up arriving - then we would have submitted two identical applications. I am also worried about what to do with the $1225 check - I don't want to cancel the first in case it gets delivered. But I also don't want to write another $1225 check and have two get cashed. But we are losing patience hoping the application shows up.

I understand sometimes USPS forgets a delivery scan, but the check has not been cashed, and we have had no notification from USCIS from the G-1145.

What do people suggest we do? This is very upsetting and frustrating, especially considering the packet contains sensitive documents.

I would give it a little longer (I know it's frustrating to wait!)....USPS services closed early on November 21st, and closed completely on November 22nd.  With the holiday and then the weekend right after (November 24th and November 25th) I'm hoping for you that it'll get there by the end of this week.

The check may have been cashed (if it *has* arrived) but depending on your bank may not show up as "cleared" through your account yet.  Keep checking the USPS tracking number---good luck!

Just wait until Tuesday of next week before you do all that. I understand that this is frustrating but you have to be patient.

Yeah wait a little bit, the same thing happened to me. I sent my package Nov 6 and it’s supposed to arrive in Chicago Nov 8 but it never did and I also got the same message when I would check my tracking number. It finally got delivered Nov 12. The weird thing is when I got my notification thru text on the 18th and I check my case on the USCIS website it says that they received my paper work Nov 9. So yeah confusing but the package didn’t get lost. Have you check if the check has been cashed? Minded got cashed Nov 16 and night of Nov 18 I got my text notifications

Thanks all, I'll wait a few more days and keep you posted, although USPS's response wasn't very encouraging: "We do understand how important this item is to you; regrettably our search was unsuccessful in locating your missing parcel or its contents." 😕

I'll keep looking out for the check in case it was actually delivered - from memory that was the first thing they did when we filed the I-129F.

Also be advised that there has been a blizzard in the Chicago area so the mail may just be delayed. I saw that on the filipino channel news tonight.

Okay so my wife just got 3 texts from USCIS confirming they have received our application! I assume that's one each for the I-485, EAP and AP applications.

I guess that means don't trust USPS tracking - it must never have been scanned for delivery. What a relief! 😎

I’m glad that got resolved and yes it sucks. Like I said when I checked the tracking it says it got delivered Nov 12 and yet USCIS said they got my forms Nov 9.

We sent our packet on 11/23/2018 and it still says it hasn't been delivered yet.  IT said 2 day shipping, but I guess that is a lie.  My USPS tracking currently says, "Your item arrived at our CHICAGO IL DISTRIBUTION CENTER destination facility on November 28, 2018 at 4:30 am. The item is currently in transit to the destination."

I hope they get it soon....

They will don't worry. They basically up everything there in batches so when your batch is picked up and opened then they will notify you.

I'm glad everything worked out for you @Jgbell! I'm in the same situation right now, although I've been waiting much less than you did. We sent our AOS package on November 24 from Boston and was supposed to be delivered on Monday, Nov 26. It's been "Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility" for a couple of days now.

Here's hoping they didn't lose it and we'll just get our NOA1 soon 😓

Sounds like quite a few might have gotten delivered without a final scan - our tracking still says in transit but I can see from the USCIS receipt number it all actually arrived on the 21st. The check was cashed today, so that was about 9 days after we sent it off. Hopefully yours will arrive soon, even if it doesn't show on tracking, @Tokenfreak and @l-h.

My status has changed today to this now:

Available for Pickup
CHICAGO, IL 60680
Your item arrived at the CHICAGO, IL 60680 post office at 7:25 am on November 29, 2018 and is ready for pickup.

Will they come pick it up? I thought it was delivered to their place?  I am so confused and worried right now.

Ok thanks for the reassurance. I hope that is the case with mine as well.  :)
