Medical Review: Dr Lyndon Mascarenhas

I recently had my medical done with Dr. Lyndon Mascarenhas in Toronto on November 13th.

To arrange an appointment you first have to register yourself on his website. After registering on his website, I emailed his office requesting an appointment with the option of two different dates. Lilly, his receptionist got back to me an hour later confirming that my preferred day was available and gave me a time at which I could book. I confirmed the date and time with her.

I travelled to Toronto on November 12th, and on November 13th I made my way over to his office. We did not have a difficult time finding his office, and it was actually nicer inside than I had pictured in my head. My appointment was for 2 pm but I arrived at 1:25 pm and they had no issues and we started with paperwork (fill in name, DOB, address, email address, etc.) upon my arrival. I also handed over my one passport photo, immunization paper I had printed off his website signed by my doctor at home, titre results showing immunity to chickenpox and MMR, my passport, and interview letter. I was unsure if they would need my provincial records of my immunizations, but they did not ask for it - the paper off his website signed by my doctor, and titre results showing my immunity, were enough information for his office. They do not provide immunizations at his office. The waiting room wasn't too full, there was about 4-5 other people waiting. I waited for about 10 minutes before I was called into an office and instructed to fill out two more sheets of paper. One of them was a health questionnaire that asked about your health history (e.g. history of TB, health conditions, medications), and the other was a declaration as to if you have ever been stopped or denied at the US boarder.

The doctor came in ~5 minutes later and he was very friendly. He looked at my questionnaire, said "You're healthy!" and then asked me if I had a family doctor I have checkups at home with, asked me where I was moving to, and took my blood pressure. He spent the majority of the time talking about Florida (where I will be moving) and thanking me for coming to him since I am from Manitoba. After taking my blood pressure, he gave me instructions for the x-ray and blood/urine test. He was also very thorough in ensuring that I knew the results would be couriered to me and confirmed my address to make sure it was correct. The x-ray is done in the basement of the same building, everyone there was very nice and I only had to wait about 10-15 minutes before having my x-ray done. Afterwards, I walked down the street to the lab to have my blood and urine tests. Here, I waited 5-10 minutes before being seen and the process was pretty effortless (the worst part was waiting to use the washroom, as there is only one toilet in the building)!

The total cost to me was $405 as I paid $5 credit card charge and a $50 courier charge as I am from Manitoba. I had my appointment on Tuesday, received an email Friday with the tracking number for my package, and received my medical package the following Monday - so it only took them three business days to create the report and send out. The office was quick to respond to all my emails and were very friendly and efficient in person.

I highly recommend Dr. Mascarenhas - great doctor and very friendly.
