When is the appropriate time for my fiance to complete the DS 160? I have read that some do it before case # and some wait until they have it. Does it matter?

You can't do it without the case number.. is one of the questions that number...

I plan on calling the NVC to see if our case has been received early next week. I'm curious for people who have been notified by email how the NVC obtained the beneficiary email address?

Can I provide them with the beneficiary email when I call to check on our status?

I didn't think you could but I read in some of the threads that some people go ahead and do them once they receive NOA2...I was just curious to know. Thanks

NVC received our petition on Dec 31st and have yet to assign a case number.

Local consulate is Montreal, Canada

Just wondering what the next step is after we receive the case number? Also, i know there is another payment of $265 but not sure If that must be paid before completing the DS 160 or if it is paid at the time of interview?

First, You'll find the answers to your questions on the first page first post of this thread.

Second, you're within normal processing times so calling is only going to get you the pad answer ''8 more weeks".

More patience.

Do all packets that have case numbers go out on the next batch?  Called and got case number.  I asked when the next batch may be shipped out, and he responded with 'well it was just assigned a case number on dec 28th and still under administrative processing'  -  is this standard lingo for them even tho it's got some odds of going out next week?

Not an expert by any means but, from what i have gleaned here and other sites, the amount of time your case spends at the NVC is based on a few factors: the workload at the NVC being number 1, followed by the relative ease of AP for you beneficiary's country/location(s)/circumstances of the case.  Some countries have a really hard AP and it can take many months, others have it very easy and go through in days.  All you or I can do is wait and check the various trackers on CEAC and DHL to see when it moves next.  You may be able to guess at the 2nd factor by checking others' experience in Columbia and taking a rough average of those dates.

There isn't a fast rule when it comes to the shipments other than we know from 5 months of past experience that they will go out on Tuesdays and some on Wednesday (next shipment is 1/8-9). NVC has never confirmed or denied this shipping process so, asking will not garner an answer. What we have seen is if you case file has been given a CN# the week and the second week prior to the upcoming shipment date, then there is a relatively good chance that your file will make the next shipment.

On the first page of this thread I have outlined a few things you can do to track your case so I will not repeat that information here.

Yes, that is standard lingo.

You can't hurry it along at all. You have to wait for P3 which takes 2-4 weeks from Ready. Comply with what they ask for in P3 (the actually one they send you) by sending them a copy of the signed P3 checklist, your DS-160 confirmation and your Passport Bio. Then they send you P4. Then they tell you to register to schedule and you'll wait some more for interviews to open up, which only happens once a month during the last week of the month for two months ahead UNLESS you are lucky and you scoop up a cancellation. Get your medical appointment first so you can schedule the interview shortly afterwards.
