Just got my case number! NOA2 11/30. NVC Receive 12/17. I asked about the government shutdown affecting anything, and she said they hadn't heard anything yet (boilerplate answer). However the NVC phone lines are closed later this evening and were closed earlier this morning.

US Federal offices will be off Monday and Tuesday. The government shutdown does not affect USCIS as it is funded by your kind contributions. (Your applications fee)

Hi all, We got our petition approved on 12 Dec 18 but our case has not yet made it to NVC. I’m concerned about the threats of this government shutdown and how it might affect our process. Any info or insight is appreciated, thank you.

USCIS and the Embassies are funded by the fees they collect during your process. Hence they are not affected by a government shut down as your fees are enough to keep them operating. For more information follow the link.

Congratulations. Here is some help for the next steps.

After you get your case number from NVC it would be a good idea if you were to connect with the VJ sub forum for all things dealing with the US Embassy in Colombia and they will answer your questions for the processing of your visa from their personal experience. Link:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/96-mexico-latin-south-america/

Get the US Embassy Colombian K-1 Packet 3 (P3) at  https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7hB3bl9Snfkb0NiMVFUd2JsVjA/view  as this is your bible needed to complete and receive your visa. The required documents are included and use the EL as a check list. Once you have completed or gathered the required documents you'll be ready for your interview. If it is not on the Embassy letter, it probably is not needed.

Last but not least, READ the pages on the US Embassy website for your country so that you are up to speed.

https://co.usembassy.gov/visas/

One last place to check for information would be the VJ Wiki found here: http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/Special:AllPages and here http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Colombia&cty=Bogota

Ppl doing their vaccinations in Columbia can do them with anyone not connected to the approved medical center where  your exam will take place saving you a lot of money. Be sure to get a receipt that states every single vaccination that you received. See list below that are required vaccinations. Then during your medical present the receipt for the vaccinations to the Doctor and ask that they be transposed to the DS-3025 and marked COMPLETE! Very important that they are marked complete. You will use this document once you are married and filing your AOS package.

Good luck and God's speed.

thanks friend! you always giving strength and guidance in this process! God bless you! 🙏❤️🎊🎉🎉🎉

I'm sorry am I missing something here? If your NOA2 was approved and your case has not been received by NVC but USCIS states they still have it, I'm not sure why you are sending your NOA2 to NVC. You should be on the phone to USCIS and ask for a tier 2 agent and try and get to the bottom of this dilemma you are experiencing.

Not all visa units are self sustaining.   They are able to stay open for a period of time.   An extended shutdown could impact some embassies more than others

YMMV

For those too lazy to click the links:

Lapse in Federal Funding for Certain USCIS Operations

The current lapse in annual appropriated funding for the U.S. government does not affect USCIS’ fee-funded activities. Our offices will remain open, and all applicants should attend interviews and appointments as scheduled.

However, several USCIS programs will either expire or suspend operations, or be otherwise affected, until they receive appropriated funds or are reauthorized by Congress. These include:

  • EB-5 Immigrant Investor Regional Center Program. Regional centers are a public or private economic unit in the United States that promote economic growth. USCIS designates regional centers for participation in the Immigrant Investor Program.
  • E-Verify. This free internet-based system allows businesses to determine the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States.
  • Conrad 30 J-1 doctors. This program allows J-1 doctors to apply for a waiver of the two-year residence requirement after completing the J-1 exchange visitor program. The expiration only affects the date by which the J-1 doctor must have entered the United States; it is not a shutdown of the Conrad 30 program entirely.
  • Non-minister religious workers. This special immigrant category allows non-ministers in religious vocations and occupations to immigrate or adjust status in the United States to perform religious work in a full-time, compensated position.

Ok. Now I understand. We experience has been that it's taking 2-4 weeks to get to NVC. So you are just on the edge of the window. I have a feeling that you should see something next week and if not then the following week only because of the holiday. Stay positive.

9. Tracking your case file that's in transit to your Embassy. Go to www.dhl.com click Express then Tracking, then Track by Shipper's Reference, and on this page you add your search information. You change the day and month to what you think your package might have left NVC or call NVC to get the date your package had left NVC in route to your Embassy then go to the DHL website and enter the following information:

EXAMPLE:

* Shipper´s Reference : EXP 24 MAR 2011A (This is the date you think it left NVC, just substitute the date and leave everything else as is)

* Date range for shipment - From: 23 - 03 - 2011

* Date range for shipment - To: 26 - 03 - 2011

Account Number - Leave this blank

Shipment Destination: Manila (Works for any Country Just replace the city where the Embassy is located)

I hope these tips help you along your Journey. So, let’s share our experiences, our tips and ask questions.

The shipper's reference to Vietnam, you have to hit the date on the mark. I have found out they ship every 2 weeks on Wednesday and the Consulate receives it on Monday. I only checked Nov and Dec but the next shipment for Vietnam should go out on the 27th.

Thank you so much for all you do Greenbaum. I am very glad I found VJ and I have learned a lot from you and many others.
