My passport stamp or visa does not show any "registration #".... @Greenbaum do you know where the alien number must be? Im filling out form I485 and asks for this information. Is it the number the PO wrote in my passport at the port of entery under the stamp?

Hi, everyone! Im filling out the I-485 Form for AOS, but I have a doubt about page 3; Part 2. Application Type or Filing Category the question: "Are you applying for adjustment based on the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) section 245 (i)?"

 

Do you know if k1s must also submit this 245 (i) (Suplement A) with the I-485?, I'm not sure if k1 fiance visa is consider a "family-based type of visa"

 

Hope I explained myself, I'm not fully understanding this part of the form.

Docs should be apostille and then translated, the translation has to be legalized as well.

I have never heard any embassy requiring the apostille of documents. Check with your embassy.

 

Also, if you are fluent in English and Spanish then you can do your own documents. Be sure to add the following to the document

 

Just put this statement on it and sign:

 

CERTIFICATE OF TRANSLATION I, ___________________________, am competent to translate from ________________ into English, and certify that the translation of __________________________________ is true and accurate to the best of my abilitie. ______________________________ Signature of Translator Name of Translator Address of Translator ____________________________ Telephone Number of Translator

The consul at the embassy warned me to apostille and translate my birth certificate, because without the apostille It was not going to have any legal value overseas to do the AOS. And of course, do translation with a pro and legalize it.

We're both fluent in the others language but we figured it would be a conflict of interest so we used a translator. They did get back to me and say no apostille necessary

That's good information to have. I have updated my requirements for Argentina. Can you share any professional translators that you know of or that you used. Also, do they also do the apostille or is that to be done with a different entity? Thanks.

Sure! I translated and apostille all the documents for my I129F petition with Maria Virginia Agustini, and now she will translate my birth certificate. I totally trust her, is a very professional a d nice person.

 

I found her in the list of professional translators at "Colegio de traductores publicos" in Argentina. She works fast, explains every process if you don't know very much how or what you need to do, and she takes care to legalize the translations at the "Colegio de traductores publicos". Her office phone # is 48131348. 

 

The Birth Certificate translation, called in Argentina "Acta de Nacimiento", costs $1000 Argentinian pesos (today May 2019), have in mind costs may vary depending dollar value, or amount of documents. And the legalization costs $400 Argentinian pesos. It takes 48hs to have the translation done, if you need more papers usually takes 5 to 7 business days.

 

People form Argentina also must have in mind the following: 

 

1. Before translating the document the apostille must be done at "La Cansilleria" in Capital City ( for Argentinians born in Buenos Aires). The apostille at "La Cansilleria" costs $300 Argentinian pesos, but you have to take an appointment through the online website (I don't have it, but just search "cansilleria>apostilla>capital federal" in Google, and should pop up. The issue is that they give appointments 15 or more days ahead. For example, my dad checked to get an appointment last week and the fastest appointment was for May 22. On the bright side, if you go early, you get it same day and it's cheap.

 

If you are on a rush, you have no time to wait like me, go for this option: Now the Argentinian government gave power to the "Colegio de Escribanos" from each town and Argentinian county, to do apostille on legal documents. It takes 5 business days and costs $700 Argentinian pesos. Its fast but more expensive. Just use the option that suits you best and always check prices because costs may vary.
