@Greenbaum

Sorry sir,I would also like to know your opinions about my question,

Me and fiance will get married on May 13th, then I’ll have to apply SSN(with the name on my passport) and AOS(with the name on my marriage certificate) separately. So my fiancé can use my SSN to add me to his bank and insurance, after I get my GC with my married name, I’ll have to go back to the SSN office, the bank and the insurance to change it. Are these correct steps?

And for the I-765 form, part 2 13a and 14, I have check No for both. It won’t effect my SSN process right?

Thank you for your help.

🤔 is European professional women any higher than other nationality women that they should be treated differently at immigration ..Didn’t know that ... & I’m glad you had antibacterial spray as every one else in the secondary line was carrying some sort of bugs as they were not European

Thanks for expressing what I was thinking.  I remember that if you don't like it somewhere you are free to return to your home land. I feel sorry for her fiancee. Oy vey!

Once you land the next day you go to SS while you are single. Then yes follow after marriage

Hey everyone! Moving on Sunday and couldn’t be more excited. Does anyone have a detailed order of things to do after entering the states or know of any good threads of people with advice on this? I have heard so many mixed things about social security numbers and the order of which to do everything after entering the states and it all seems quite overwhelming. Some things I am confused about are:

do I need an SSN to set up a bank account?

what documents do I need to bring to the office to apply for SSN?

after marriage do i need to get a new SSN with new name on it?

Is it worth while to apply for advanced parole or just wait until AOS is processed to come home and visit family?

some of these may be silly questions but we definitely don’t want to forget to do anything before moving! Thanks so much in advance

Yes yes and yes.

Thank you for your detailed answers and information!

Does it mean I should apply the AOS and SSN separately? YES

It seems like I’ll get the SSN first then the GC, so I’ll have to go back to SSN office to change my name, correct? YES

And if my fiancé added me to his insurance and the bank account before I get my GC, is it the same as the SSN, we should just have to call them and change my name to my married name? YES

You're very helpful, thanks so much YW

So I simply print out the page from the link that states K1 visa holders are eligible to apply for SSN and bring that with the rest of my documents to SSA office? Also how do I obtain my I-94 and how do I know when this expires? Thanks so much again. Very much appreciate the advice and quick responses

You read the link and what's not there use Google. I triple guarantee that if you Google I94 your answer will be smiling back at you.

My Goodness people.  Do a little research. How do you think I learned. Have any of you ventured outside this thread to learn more. Have you tried selecting your flag in your profile. Did you know there is a entire section discussing SSN. Did you know about the guides. There is one for AOS after marriage.

Very much appreciate your advice and knowledge but the reason we ask is because we do not know. If we did know all the answers this would eliminate the need to ask questions.

I apologize for any stupid questions or repeating myself. This whole process is very stressful and takes a toll on the mind as I’m sure many would agree.

I ask you try and step out and use Google.  If you can't find the answer we will help. I answer 50 to 100 questions a day. 75% are questions that have been answered before but people are to lazy to look on their own. Or to read the thread every day from where they left off. Your questions are not stupid they just show no effort to find the answer on your own.

For scheduling the K1 interview, did you have to wait until you heard back from the embassy? I saw online when I checked the NVC that I'm ready to schedule an appointment, but I haven't heard from the embassy to get a consular letter?

The options that would likely apply to me are:

I have received a letter from theh consular section with instructions to register or shedule a K visa appointment.
or
I have received a letter from the consular section with instructions to schedule an immigrant visa appointment"
