Finally sent in the I-864 a few days ago with my nerves shot since it was the form I dreaded the most and gathering some of the evidence needed from the joint sponsor was a little complicated.

I was just thinking last night how glad I am that I haven't had a single RFE throughout this whole process, then Murphy's law kicked me in the butt and I got one today.

I've heard that they will send the I-864 back for silly little things like not putting N/A in empty columns, is that true? I hope that's all it is.

I don't suppose there is any way to find out what the RFE is for before it gets here?

Thank you for your kind thoughts :D

After reviewing the I-864 ( I made two copies of everything I sent them,) I'm sure it must be something to do with not putting N/A in empty slots or something silly like that. Will find out for sure when they start answering their phones Monday.

Hopefully you also get some good news on Monday about your Police Certificates (whether they are still valid or not.) :)

If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take for yours to come in the mail? I emailed the RCMP about a week and a half ago, asking about the status of mine (about 1.5 months since I sent them off,) and they didn't bother responding :crying:

I read on their website it is taking upwards of 120 days to receive them in the mail now... is that how long it took for yours?

Mine took 6 weeks, that also included it being sent back to me (An RCMP RFE!) I didn't know to include a $25.00 processing fee- the people at my Local RCMP don't seem to know much about anything and didn't tell me that. They lead a cushy life here and spend more time at Timmy's that actually "policing"

If I want to get a normal Police Certificate- I called Headquarters and they said it is same day. I phone my local RCMP again, I get a different answer depending who answers the phone, one girl had no idea what a Police Certificate was, another one told me yes they do them and it is no longer the yellow sheet, she said it was $50 and something they just printed off. I asked her 3 times "it's not just a background check right? It is a Police Certificate for Immigration use?" She seemed to know what I was talking about.

Ok first things first: Your new photo under your name just made me laugh so hard I almost choked on my coffee.

Secondly, sounds like it should work out fine then with your certificate if you do end up getting it done locally. Looks like I'm going to end up having to use my local one as well since the RCMP one is taking so darn long. Its a shame we'll both have these fancy police certificates and will have absolutely no use for them lol.

Hopefully u get ur RFE soerted out soon. I have read people getting RFe'd for leaving spaces blank!! I'm assuming you require fingerprinting because you have HAD a criminal record in the past. have seen people on VJ requesting fingerprinting when they have never had one, and they are just waiting for no reason. Best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I've never had a criminal record, I've been a fairly well behaved person my whole life  Really though, I'm starting to think my police certificate is stashed somewhere under a pile of donuts because it can't possibly take this long to do a clearance for someone who has never been arrested hehe.

I didnt mail anything for my RCMP cer. Went to the local detachemnt to get it done. One can goto the local police as well, just ensure the search has been CANADA wide (using CPIK system) I had mine in a few days, some get it on the spot, some a bit longer. The 120 days is referring to fingerprinting.

Oh.... the way they did it in Victoria was they fingerprinted all of us (criminals and non-criminals alike) then gave us the fingerprint form to keep (souvenir for some purpose) as well as a police certificate from the Victoria Police Department. The police certificate from there does say it was a Canada wide one using the CPIC system, but I figured I would go ahead and get the RCMP one too just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for clearing up the whole 120 day thing though, I thought that was how long they were going to make me wait for my certificate to come in the mail hehe.

Hey Misty,

I called the automated message and they said something is incomplete too. But when I talked to a live person today, she told me the missing info is actually the DS-230 package (which they generated today). So hopefully for you it's the DS-230 package too!!

Lol yeah, apparently mine was an RFE for the IV bill, (which arrived at NVC two weeks ago. Luckily when I called, they "realized" they had it all this time, and entered it in the system.)

They said they would mail out the DS-230 sometime this week. Are you using Jame's Shortcuts to send yours? I never really figured out the generating the barcode stuff, so will likely just end up waiting til it arrives to send it off.

Shame on NVC for making us panic when nothing was missing in the first place!
