Dear Senator xxxxxxx:

We urge you to support reforms that answer the question of uninspected

entry to our nation without fracturing the concept of family unity.

The family structure is the cornerstone of American society, and the

cornerstone of U.S. immigration policy since its inception.

This bill punishes LEGAL immigrants, who have played by the rules

and made a commitment to America. It creates new hurdles to US

immigration law tha will keep them separated from their spouses,

children, parents, siblings, and other extended family.

"Chain migration" should not be a dirty term.

Rushing to judgement on this bill with concepts meant to

stop the flow of uninspected entrants to our nation will

unfairly impact those who are traversing the system legally.

Neither is it equitable to allow a separate path of entry for

unskilled laborers, while handing out 'points' for education

and job skill to applicants traversing the family path. Ever.

I implore you to take a moment and look at this proposal

from the side of families. This bill provides agriculture

relief at the expense of family reunification, negatively

impacting us all, and sends the wrong message around the globe

of US family values.

Sincerely,

xxxxx xxxx

I have written to Senator Mel Martinez, Senator Bill Nelson, Harry Reid and Kathy Castor. I agree do not snail mail. Many have contact information online and have forms to fill out. The contact information shoould be for their DC locations. They are not local at this time, so be sure they get this in DC.

Thanks everyone!!

The family structure is ... the cornerstone of U.S. immigration policy since its inception.

I believe moving away from national-origin to family ties is something that happened to immigration law as recently as the early 70s.

[*]green cards for the siblings and adult children of U.S. citizens and green card holders are eliminated.

I think that's a great idea. I've seen how Indian immigrants abuse the sibling visas, they end up in the US importing trash it doesn't need.

[*]A new Parents Visitor visa is created to ensure that parents are allowed to visit their children in the United States regularly and for extended periods of time.

A good, common-sense idea.

[*]The Diversity Lottery Program, which grants 50,000 green cards per year through random chance, is ended.

Excellent!

PERMANENT BAR for an overstay? How is that fair? Think about it.

That would be fair only if it was on all overstays going forward. Retroactively, no - that would be wrong.

Dear Senator,

As one of your constituents, I am counting on you to vote against the proposed immigration reform. Illegal immigration is a terrible problem that we must deal with, however, the current proposal does nothing but punish legal immigrants and families.

As a US citizen with a pending petition for an immigrant family member, I am appauled at the disparity between the treatment we give to legal immigrants vs. illegal immigrants. Unskilled laborers should not be given preferential treatment at the expense of the American family unit. The family structure is the cornerstone of American society, and the cornerstone of U.S. immigration policy since its inception. Please do not contribute to its destruction.

This proposal is also semantical in nature; while we can leave out words like 'amnesty', it doesn't change the fact that this is precisely what it is. It didn't work in 1986, and it's not going to work now. While I and my family have shown the utmost of respect for this fine country by doing things the right & legal way, millions of lawbreakers will be handed an easier path to LPR status by doing things the wrong way. Is that how justice is supposed to work? How can you explain to your constituents that lawlessness is rewarded by this government?

I urge you to have the courage to do what's right for this country: to vote against this measure and honor the law and those who respect it, and honor the family unit. I can't think of anything more worthy of protecting. Can you?

Thank you,

Thanks to all who wrote links and letters..

I as well have just sent --rather forwarded the letter to All Government Persons I could think of in my state Oregon..

However.. a side note..

On Governor Kulongoski's website.. it is stated that there is a limit of 1000 strokes for each email..

so.. forgive the edit..

I sent in just a slight different variation..

Dear Senator,

As one of your constituents, I am counting on you to vote against the proposed immigration reform. Illegal immigration is a terrible problem that we must deal with, however, the current proposal does nothing but punish legal immigrants and families.

I think that no matter what stage of the process we all are in.... this bill and future bills will have a affect on each of us...

This is total BS:

....

  • The Diversity Lottery Program, which grants 50,000 green cards per year through random chance, is ended.

Is it? The Green Card Lottery is total BS IMHO. Why should people get Green Cards purely due to random chance?

I agree do not snail mail.

Shockingly poor advice, in my opinion. A hand written, USPS delivered letter is worth a 1000 emails or online petitions. If you stick a letter in your mailbox today its going to get to your Senator this week, its not like this bill is going to be passed tomorrow.

I agree here. The diversity lottery might have been good PR for the US, but what the hell is the point otherwise? We're already pretty diverse...

I completely agree, LHA

the point was in this very specific situation, we want law-makers to know exactly what we feel as soon as possible. there are e-forms online for every senator AFAIK. sorry you found it mis-informational.
