no, never. i've eaten lots of green papaya though. yum som tum!

They're very tart. Maybe Luz could explain why it's popular to eat green mangos. I think it's common for pregnant women to crave it.

for you jenn: (and anyone else in boston)

Patel Brothers on Moody St in Waltham is selling mangos (mangoes) imported from India. They currently offer the alphonso and kesar varieties.

Oh wow, thanks! You're certainly in the know about Indian mangoes!!!

I bet Fruit of the Four Seasons has them too. They have all kinds of good fruits!! I love that store. Whole Foods would be another spot that they'd pop up I bet.

I love mangos but I never bothered to look where the ones I get come from. I have a hard time cubing them too though. Do you all take the skin off first and then cube it or do you cube it and then cut the skin away? Also mango pits are the strangest pits I've ever seen. lol

you can do either. you can peel the mango with a knife (or with your hands on some of them), then slice down the pit on either side to get each half off.then cube it.

or you can leave it with the peel, slice each half off the pit, then run your knife through the flesh in a square pattern and pop the squares out. i guess it depends on how ripe it is too.

See that is where the problem comes in...slicing with the stupid pit. I never know when the pit ends. Can you actually slice the pit itself in half and then scoop it out? It seems you'd have to have a really strong knife to do that.

mmmmmmmmmm i just bought mango today at Aldi's for 50 cents EACH :)

Haven't a clue where they are from but SOOOOO looking forward to them.

I love mangoes too, but I have never bought them myself until a few days ago. I ended up with a real mango mess as I had no idea how to cube it....

I will continue to try until I succeed because they taste so good.

Hey I am with you on this one. I did one for the first time the other day, I have to say it was more like hand shredded mango by the time I had finished with it not a cube in sight....lol

I dont know why but I thought they had a round pit and that you treated them like an avocado...how wrong I was..

Mangoes are ok, but my favorite fruit is mangosteen. Can't get them in the States, except Hawaii I think...They can't be imported to the mainland. I also love durian. It's an acquired taste (and smell).

I used to like Mangos till I went to Egypt. So many things made from mangos! I had mango juice and mango ice-cream which was ok the first few times I ate it. But the time came where everyone was served a mango after dinner. I was trying to neatly cut my mango while everyone at the table was eating it as if it was their last meal! Mango juice rolling down their chins, dripping all over the place.

Mangosteen's are to die for. Though I am quite partial to a fabulous mango myself. My fiance knows this and loves to tease me saying that he is ejoying tons of juicy mango without me... . There are too many tropical fruits that I miss.

I really like the small yellow Mangos from Mexico. They're a little tart. I stopped at the fruit market on the way home from work yesterday and they had regular mangos (from Guatemala) for $0.59 and the yellow ones 3 for $.78. I got some of each. Yay for mango season.

I love the mango ice cream in Egypt. I wish they had it here. I miss it :(
