Why dont DVD movies from UK work in USA?

I just got a really cheap (24$) dvd player at best buy, and it plays UK dvd's no problem

What brand, if you don't mind? (Maybe you'd better PM me the info.)

We had a CyberHome DVD player we got at Best Buy for cheap and it was great (we didn't want to potentially void the warranty on our fancy DVD player so we bought a cheap one to hack), but it died in the move to Albuquerque (and we were halfway through Simon Schama's History of Britain )and we couldn't find another one that was easily hackable (that model had been discontinued). The nice thing about CyberHome was that it was exceptionally easy, there was just a "hidden" menu in it that changed the region. Some DVD players, you have to download software on your computer, burn a CD of it, then play the CD in the player; or else a whole series of codes to enter. CyberHome just had a setup menu labeled 1-8, then if you picked 9, it would take you to the region coding.

It is a Insignia, and honestly I didn't even get it because it was multi-regional, I got it because my son had just destroyed our playstation, and I told the sales man "I need the cheapest dvd player you have" lol I was so happy when I was bored one day and tried my Still Game dvd's that my hubby got me and they worked!

In order to play any region DVD movie on your desktop or laptop you need a special software. I use "DVD Region Free " software I can say it is the best.

The DVD players? Buy a multi region system and you will not have problems anymore....or take the one you have to a specialist from an electronic department and they can "fix it" for region free it is what i did

I always do a little research into the player before purchasing, and I now have two players (one personal portable DVD player for when I travel and one hooked up to our TV at home), and you can often find a sequence or a code that will allow you set the region to 0, then you can play DVDs from any region. I found mine just by looking online, took quite a few tries to get the code to take though.
