I am posting under my fiancee's account.

I am an American. My fiancee is l living in Canada. We had our K-1 Visa interview on Wednesday. She received her visa today, and I drove up after work to get her, and bring her to the US tomorrow. (Saturday.) I just double-checked her visa, and there is an error. The passport number on her visa is off by one number. It is a 3 day holiday weekend for Canada, and I cannot take off any more days from work. Not to mention that we CANNOT go back to Montreal any time soon. My fiancee lives in Toronto, and has no transportation. We cannot afford to be flying all over creation and back because some data entry clerk made a very careless mistake after 6months of our hard work, and thousands of dollars spent. We are thinking about just trying to cross the border and see what happens. Will we get across? Can this be fixed by mail from the US? PLEASE, someone post a reply. We are set to leave in the morning. We are out of money, time off from work, and patience for the consulate. The situation is complicated by the fact that my fiancee is not a Canadian citizen. Her work visa expires in July. PLEASE HELP!!!

Given the time constraint, if it were me, I would play dumb and chance it. The name and picture match. No one is going to look at the passport number in the visa again after you cross the border, and you will find out if it is a problem quickly. Besides, THEY put the visa in her passport. OBVIOUSLY, it is their screwup. Coming from Canada, I'm would be shocked if this is something that can not be dealt with at the border if it is a problem. No one would ever look for this on their own.

Also, the worst thing that can happen is they say no at the border, and you get it fixed a few days later. If they don't care (they will probably notice the error at the border since they scan them electronically), you are fine. (No one will notice ever again, since you only need the I-94 in the future.)

Thats a tough one. I'm so sorry :(

But you guys are legit so....

Actually, I'm not going to offer any advice, but what would have happened if you didn't notice the mistake, you would have just gone without even realising the error since you assume all the info is correct right?

Whatever you decide to do, good luck!

I would also say go and play dumb, last time I checked Canada was not part of the axis of evil unless you are a hockey fan and dont like the Habs, Leafs, Canucks, Sens, Flames etc

Thank you all so much. As I'm sure you can tell, I'm pretty annoyed... and worried. Having others encourage the devious plan makes me feel more confident. I've been pretty ####### about the process, making sure we got everything right. So it's just frustrating to have something like this go wrong on the other end. I think we'll be leaving soon. Considering the time, I think we will post in the Canadian section after trying to just cross. That is unless you can remember a name, Tinker. I might give them a shot. But seriously, we will be at the boarder in like 2.5 hours.

Thanks again.

Will post a result in this thread this weekend.

And they're off!

Glad all worked out!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
