I blame the parents of the baby boomers for raising the spinless, gutless, spoiled, self-centered, elitist turds that are now running, ruining, and mismanaging this country as it has never been mismanaged and ruined before. ;)

I am a baby boomer - every time I see one I make a pistol with my fingers and go 'boom'-boom'. Hate em the incontinent litte swines sat behind me on planes..

No seriously - I am a baby boomer and you wouldn't say I was gutless if you saw me - you would say 'look at that gut'

Question: How do we morally justify letting any Cuban who reaches our shore stay here with a Green Card and not doing the same with Mexicans?

I'm not looking for geopolitical reasons... can it be morally justified?

Is it just?

oh yeah, i didn't know the mexicans were fleeing a dictator

Cuba is an authoritarian dictatorship, and Mexico is just corrupt.

I've known him for 10 years. I don't really even notice his accent anymore. I'm not one of those Yanks who thinks English accents are sexy, though. Most of them sound coarse to me.

English accents do nothing for me either. :P In fact, there's nothing worse than being whined at with an English accent. I don't notice my hubby's accent much anymore either, unless he's speaking with his family or mumbling.

----

Back to the topic, I cannot imagine staying in a country illegally. I also cannot understand why someone would want to stay in a foreign country if they were beaten by their SO, or their SO died, etc - I'd want to go straight home to my family. I don't see any differences, and this may be cold but - you do things by the book or eff off. We have all had to endure time away from the people we loved because we chose to do things the right way, the legal way, and I truly cannot stand people, from any country, who would gain access to my homeland illegally, for any reason. I also cannot stand people who come to this country and don't bother learning English, or feel some sort of entitlement. Recently in PA, a man who immigrated legally is sick to death of listening to Puerto Ricans in Lancaster County. He rented billboard space to advertise the message "To Succeed in America - Speak English" and he's not even a native English speaker. He is angry he spent so many years becoming fluent in English, even trained himself to lose his natural accent, came to the States legally, only to be bombarded by Spanish speakers. Is he a racist? or is he a realist? When I went to the UK I didn't run around squawking about french fries and ranch dressing, or throwing a fit because my hair dryer didn't fit the wall sockets. People would have labeled me as a rude American and I would have accomplished nothing. Instead I embraced the slang, the culture, the tv, the mint aeros! and did my best to fit-in, to the point where people didn't even think I was American, (they thought I was Canadian *shock*) When Mexicans legally become American citizens and gain the right to vote, then I'll give an ** what they think of American legislation - same for anyone from any country...

MLK Jr. and Gandhi were dangerous thinkers, weren't they, Gary?

Gandhi was about fighting invaders. So are we. MLK was about exercising for rights gained as American citizens. So are we. Both would be anti-illegals.

Gandhi was about a lot more than fighting invaders. Yes, he played a pivotal role in the withdrawal of British personnel from the Indian subcontinent. But he did a lot more than that. In the middle of Partition, he was also one of lone voices on the Indian side who said India should be open to anyone, even Muslims who lived in what was to become Pakistan. He believed anyone who believed in India could be Indian, regardless of faith. This was a stark contrast to other Hindu and Muslim leaders who felt that Muslims did not belong in India and Hindus did not belong in Pakistan. Today, an extremely small number of Hindus remain in Pakistan and a very large number of Muslims remain in India. Guess who's vision won?

The vision of the just.

Pwned! :o

This Gandhi person sounds like a pretty cool dude.

Slightly amending witch trials in England - If they float they are illegals to be returned - if they sink they are innocent victims of communism and it's a shame...

We have the answer - it's all politics and fairness and logic doesn't come into it - CUBA is a haven of human rights and opportunity compared to many places in the world - but for the US, the commies are too close for comfort so it's different

REAL POLITIK

Ummm.....Puerto Ricans ARE Americans... And most of them, if they are in Pennsylvania most likely they were born and raised in the Northeast. Just speaking Spanish on the street or amongst themselves I don't think constitutes a lack of success. In fact, sadly enough many Puerto Ricans in the Northeast barely speak enough Spanish to really carry on a conversation in Spanish, and are accused by many of losing the culture of the island and not caring about their roots and their background.

I didn't say they weren't...I was telling a story about someone who *legally* immigrated and was annoyed with Spanish speakers. I don't care where someone comes from, I care that they get here legally and they should do their best to fit-in.

So why don't you Americans stop speaking American and start speaking English..

You don't 'meet with Jim' - you 'meet Jim' etc etc to the power 1 billion ^

It's impossible to meet someone and not be with them

and all the nouns you use as verbs - shudder- good job bill shakespeare died before you traitorous Colonials started butchering our lingo

pidgin english from bongobongo land if you ask me old fruit - we lend you a great language and this is what you do with it - we are going to take it back and make you rotters learn spanish so there
