Did/Will anyone become a Step-parent?

My husband became a step-dad to my 17-year-old daughter..... the teenage years... need I say more?

I posted a "poll" on step-children a while ago, and was quite surprised that it was working out for most couples.

It could be better at our house, but I think it's getting easier as time goes by. She's now 19, attends college full-time, and works part-time. I think my husband is starting to get used to having another person in our home, but I also think he will be glad when she is finished college and moves out on her own.

My husband also has one daughter (24 years old now) and we get along fabulously. She lives on her own and always has since we've been married.

Step families can be difficult, but I think you need to remember that these children had no choice in the fact that their parent married someone from another country.

I'm just glad I have some family in the U.S. with me. My two adult sons live in Canada and I miss them terribly!!!!

my hubby became a stepfather to my daughter, who is 8 now... and we have a 2 month old together... i love to see them all together... my little girl loves to have him read to her at bedtime and has fun playing with him and joking around... she certainly tests boundaries, but then again, shes 8!

Well I have three children. Two girls 14, 10 and one boy 7. To even imagine what kind of man would want to walk into this situation and take on three kids is hard to express in words. This is a wonderful gift from Allah (God) that such men do exist. Thier own father had many mental problems, as well was abusive and is now in prison. So they have been feeling the pain of no father for the last three years. But this wonderfull thing occured that can only be a blessing , this special man that came to our lifes. He has the visa and will be here in July. And my son calls him dad already. Recently he had a project at school where he had to bring a family picture in, well he came back the next day and told me that I forgot to give him a picture of Shahid to add to the family picture. I said well he is not here yet and what will you tell ur friends. He said I told them he is my dad and is in London and will be here soon. Now please print me his picture so I can add it. Tonite my youngest daughter was crying after we had talked about when he is comeing. I asked her why she was crying she said simply "they are tears of happieness because I really want a dad." My oldest daughter , well she is teen now so what can I say it wont be easy. He will be a great father and I am so blessed to have found him.

I'm now the step-father of a 13 year old. Honestly, having never been around kids at all, I'm rather lost. We don't fight or anything like that, I just can't get do the discipline thing. I don't know why.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Stepmother however I don't feel like I'm his step mom. I've known him since he was a year and a half (5 now), and he decided on his own to call me mommy. I love him with all of my heart, and for all matters he's my son.

My wife became stepmother to my son and daughter, however they are already 19 and 17, plus they have not yet met, and I doubt they will be calling her mother.

On the flip side, my wife has several nieces/nephews/children of nieces and nephews that she has played a major part in raising, and they call her mom, and already call me dad. I wish we could bring a few of them over with her when she immigrates, but of course there is no law to allow that (I know the real parents would let us).

I'm amazed at how many of you have replied with stories of how well either you or your SO are adjusting to the new step-parent situation. It's awesome to hear so many successful transition stories when you blend your families together since it gives people like me (and some others who posted here who have complications here and there) hope for the future.

Some days I feel like being a stepmom is the best thing that could have happened to me, and that having a little one around has made me all the more optimistic about having children of my own in the future.

Other days, I feel like the third wheel (no matter how good my husband is with making sure I feel part of the family) and find it hard to look at my new step-daughter with that motherly feeling I feel I am supposed to have.

In the end though, I feel like becoming a stepmom has done a world of good for me, and hopefully a world of good for little Cayla too. Before being thrown into step-motherhood I was pretty unsure of whether I wanted to have kids of my own or not. In fact, I was scared to death of the idea lol.

Now my whole outlook on motherhood has changed. I think it is safe to say if given the choice, I would adopt the little girl for my own. Perhaps that is what makes the stepparent idea so hard sometimes; because at the end of the day, they still belong to somebody else.

Either way, I think it's safe to say step-parenting is not a easy job in any way, but at the same time, very rewarding, and it really is a learning experience both for the step parent and the child.

Thanks to this little one tugging on my sleeve right now, I've changed my mind and decided one of these days, I want some little ones of my own!!!

My stepson is 25, and married. Obviously, he won't be joining my wife when she arrives. We have a grandson (the step is too cumbersome, so we've agreed to drop it). He is five months old and I've only meet him through webcams. I sure am looking forward to going back to Russia later this year!
