DS-230 Question

So I just finished reading the required documents for the DS-230 with the Montreal Consulate, but was left a little confused. (<---what else is new?)

Anyways, it says I need original copies of Marriage Certificate, Birth Cert., etc, etc, but I wasn't sure if I'm supposed to be sending all those originals in with the DS-230, or just getting them together for the interview.

Please don't tell me I need two originals, one for the form, one for the interview

From what I've heard, they are asking for two copies (one photocopy, and one original) at the interview sometimes, so if that is true, then now I need 3 copies of everything?!

No, you don't have to submit anything along with your DS-230. What I would do is make a photocopy of the originals, and keep both for the interview in case they want photocopies there.

I cant recall, but do keep in mind, that one of you is doing a K1, and the other is CR-1, so there "may" be differences!! I thought I sent the originals in, well I know i did,lol BUT I had paid extra and had doubles of eveything,lol

Yes, I'm doing CR1, and so far the link I've been reading here on VJ says to go ahead and get copies of everything, so I think I will do the same and get doubles of everything.

Did you send your form to NVC when it was done, or did it have to be mailed to Montreal Consulate?

I honestly have no clue,lol I do not recall sending anything to Montreal. I was not stating you were wrong, just that Nina is a K1 and there are differences.

No no, didn't think you were telling me I was wrong, I was just wondering if you remembered where you had to send yours, so I will know where to send mine when the time comes

Found a bit more info though, and it looks like it does go to NVC.

but you should take certified copies and photocopies to the interview just in case....

you should have more then on copy of those important documents anyways....

they say to bring photocopies but when I went they asked to see my certified copy and they made a photocopy of it themselves.... (although they might not ask to see your certified copy at the interview.. we had a big mix-up involving our lawyer and the NVC and the lawyer sending in photocopies instead of the certified copies )

Lol it seems every time I hear anything about lawyers they are screwing something up. I almost hired one as well, but the lady really had no idea what she was talking about. I asked her what exactly is needed when you first file your I-130, and she had no idea.

If it wasn't for VJ and countless hours of surfing the net, I'd be nowhere hehe.

I think some of you long-time VJ members should start up your own immigration law firm and put those other clueless lawyers out of business!

I sent the originals, make copies of everything. NVC will forward everything to Montreal. I was just looking at my info of what to take to Montreal today and the only thing I need is my medical results and passport for the interview. They will have all the other original docs.

Yep, concur with Neiks!! I was just a freak and didnt want to take a chance that the documents got misplaced, thus bought extra's, wasn't that pricey.

I have a copy of every packet I sent including the copies of the original doc's (marriage cert. birth cert, etc, police cert...) I will probably take my copied packet with me to Montreal - just in case. None of my copies are certified copies and won't bother getting them certified.
