Shipping large items (Car & Motorbike)

We are looking to ship a car and a motor cycle from Perth to Savannah GA. The car is an older HJ panelvan (1976 model). The bike is a 1954 Matchless (Vintage Motor bike). The panel van has various parts and pieces in it that will be coming across as well. These are currently loaded in the back of it.

My husband has obtained a quote for around $13,500! This is door-to-door and includes paperwork, but is so expensive. Has anyone else moved large items like this? Who did you use, what size container, how much was it, what extra paperwork is there that we need to complete etc?

Budget is a major factor here and for that much, we are going to need to discuss if any of this is necessary to come across.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks

Importing vehicles can be do-it-yourself I was able to, without any issue.  There are special rules for antique vehicles found here https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/278/~/importing-classic-or-antique-vehicles-%2F-cars-for-personal-use. But it seems to be a bit more involved than a regular import.  So having a broker may make things easier.

Where you would importing via a immigrant Visa, I believe the 2.5% duty is waved.  You may want to make sure that your importer is not including this in his 13k cost.

I don't know much about car imports but I imported my dog from Auckland and it was 6.5k. At the time I thought it's so much money but I have her here with me and I've left everything behind so at least I have her.

I know it's a little off topic but if his cars are important to him then try your best to make it work because moving to a different country is an incredibly huge sacrifice and can sometimes feel like you've lost everything about yourself while the other person only benefitted. He is making a life changing move for you, and I'm sure he would give up his cars too if he had to but try your best to not have that happen.
