SSN Name Change?

My wife and I decided she'd wait until we got married before applying for a Social security number so we could show our marraige license and get her name changed and not make two trips, so we thought. The lady said we'd have to get USCIS to change it.

Fast forward to AOS. We get the NOA that has her married name on it so we figured she'd be in the system as her married name, not maiden name.(I think I read that in a few threads). The lady at the SS puts in my wife's "A" number and she still shows up under her maiden name.

When does she get updated in the system, after her interview? Should I just call the 1-800 number? She has her biometrics next week, can she "officially" have it changed there?

And yes, I read the guides.

Try a different SSA office, sometimes the people are so whacked that they get confused about what they are doing.

My fiancee entered the USA March 8, we married March 23, and applied for SSN April 18 and had absolutely no problems with the officer at SSA office Rochester NY, she just took the application, looked at passport saw K-1 visa, and looked at Birth Cert, and Marriage Cert, then put the order in the system, and we had the card a week and a half later in her married name.

Thanks. We had the marriage cert. but we didn't show it. The lady said we had to call INS. They also thought she couldn't get a card w/out work authorization, but I told them they my wife could.

They will only issue a card to a K-1 during the first 75 days after entry into the country.

From your timeline you indicate POE on Feb 17, so you are past the time that they will issue an SSN and will have to wait for EAD or Green-card before trying again.

I thought I had to say something but seems like YuandDan already given a great explanation so haha. Anyways, just wanna say that it's not a problem to get your SSN after marriage as long as your I-94 has not expired yet. I got mine today with my married name and at the moment busy practicing my new signature before signing on the card LOL! :D. I did not have to show my birth certificate, just gave the officer my passport and a certified copy of our marriage license and certificate. It was really an easy process.
