hi - thanks for comments  - We have 2 companies - one in SA and in US - both owned by a foreign company. I manage the overall finance for the group so both in SA and USA - currently I sit in SA but travel for meetings back and fourth. I need to be on an L1A visa cos then it allows me to work in both countries and makes it easier to be in the US - Green card will maybe be an option later on but right now cos of projects coming up, my services are needed more regularly in USA

I have been requested to consider moving over and I am just gathering all the info i need so that the US company can file the petition.

Sounds reasonable.  As others have said, the L1A/B is not really a do it yourself process and the company needs to make the submission.  However, doing research is certainly prudent.  :)

do any of you know an Immigration lawyer i could use in SA?

No, but if by SA you mean South Africa be prepared for extra scrutiny at interview especially at how long the company in SA will keep going once all its management have moved to the US and got themselves green card sponsorship. SA has had quite the cottage industry of companies being set up with a view to sending its execs to the US and closing down once they have GCs. The consulate is wising up to this and even if it’s not your intention it will make them more suspicious of new applications.  The smaller the company (and it does sound like yours is small if you are cfo for the whole group as well as doing most of the admin, which is not usually a cfo role) the more the scrutiny too. Definitely need a lawyer.

All good points and we know very little of the situation, but certainly something the US Company Lawyer will cover.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
