Hi there fellas!

One last question, if anybody has knowledge on this situation...

After we get married and send all the paperwork, and assuming everything goes well at the interview after all the paperwork is sent (months after), I understand I will get my greencard weeks or months after that. Now, how long after that will I be a "US Citizen"? Will I ever get a US Passport? Will I have to surrender my nicaraguan passport?

Thanks in advance for the help!!

You become a US citizen when you are eligible (I think 3 years being a spouse of a US citizen, but I may be wrong), apply for it, fufill all the requirements and take the oath. Pretty sure the US doesnt take your other passport, but you'll have to check what your home country's policy is on taking a new citizenship.

Could take months to years after to get your GC. It varies from case to case.

Ussually you are eligible for citzenship 3 years after you get GC approval, if immigrating through marriage, Otherwise for other immigrant types its 5 years.

You can get a passport once you are naturalized. The US does allow for dual citzenship, but not all other countries do. You will have to look into the laws of Nicaragua.

As others have stated, it could take months or even longer to receive the GC. There are a few on here that are still waiting two years after applying. The three year timeframe for applying to naturalise doesn't start until the issuance of the GC. AFAIK the US doesn't take your passport to your home country, but I would definately seek out information regarding this. My husband plans to be a dual cit (he's from Canada) and he won't have to give up his Canadian passport.
