Hello! I am petitioning (K-1) for my Cuban fiance who is a refugee in Brazil. The embassy is asking for all police certificates/"antecedentes penales" from all countries he has resided in. I am wondering how other folks were able to get police certificates/records from Cuba.

Also, does anyone know of online translating services?

Thanks in advance

Hello! I petitioned for my Cuban fiance (now husband) in Guayaquil, Ecuador in 2016, as we were both living together in Ecuador at the time. We visited Cuba in December 2015 and he picked up the "antecedentes penales" document in Havana from the office there. If he can get to Cuba, this honestly might be the best way...but I'm assuming if he has refugee status in Brazil he may not be able to get to Cuba without jeopardizing his status in Brazil.

With that being said, the second best way to get a hold of that document would be for him to send someone he can trust to the office nearest to them within Cuba to pick up that document for him, then send it to him in Brazil via DHL. It will cost more to get it if someone else is doing it for him, however.

Here is why I say that someone going to the office in Cuba - either him or someone he knows - would be best. I am pretty sure that getting that document sent to the Cuban embassy in Brazil is around $500. I recall looking into that with my husband in Ecuador and seeing that is costed that much. Check online on the website of the embassy in Brazil...unfortunately having any official document sent from Cuba to anywhere is ungodly expensive.

Actually, I just looked on this page: http://misiones.minrex.gob.cu/es/brasil/servicios-consulares and it says that it that it costs 95.00 reals. Not that bad! You may be in luck. Have him visit the embassy/consulate if he lives nearby, or at least give them a call to verify that.

Best of luck! Let me know if you have any other questions and I would be glad to help :)
