Hi, our I-130 has just been approved! We're excited, and at the same time started to think of the next steps to come.

I know that the next thing that they're going to send us is going to be the choice of agent form.

What I'm wondering is, would it speed things up by specifying my spouse in the U.S. as the agent, or would it slow things down? To where I am in Southeast Asia, it usually takes mail 2 full weeks to get to me from the U.S., although it's quite secure (I've never had things lost in mail here). If I have everything sent to him in the U.S., of course the mail will reach him quicker than to me, but would he have to then forward me everything anyways (then I would rather specify myself as the agent)? Or are there things (DS 230 bill or DS 230 form itself) that my spouse can just submit without forwarding to me? For example, does DS 230 bill require any signature by me (or he can just send a check)? Can I just download the DS 230 from the web, complete it, and send it to him beforehand so when the packet with coversheet comes, my spouse can send it in (without him needing to forward the forms to me and then I send it back)? If at least one item can be submitted just by him (without him forwarding it to me), then it may be a good idea to specify him as the agent.

We are not up to doing the full Jame's shortcut which involves creating barcodes, etc. We just want to make an informed decision on whom to make an agent. Thank you for your help!

Absolutely. Make sure to include all the other things he may need to send back with the DS230. For some, it's just the bio page of the passport, for others it's a bit more.

This will be helpful:

The DS-3032 which will also have to be signed by you can be downloaded as well, but people are also succesfully emailing their choice of agent. That saves lots of time as well :)

This only applies if you are doing the CR/IR1 ... you don't have your timeline filled out so I couldn't really tell :)

Timeline (2nd):

5/29/2009 - Filing I-751 Removal of conditions

6/01/2009 - CSC received I-751

6/04/2009 - check cashed (fast!)

6/08/2009 - received I-797C (receipt date 6/01)

6/22/2009 - received Biometrics Appt. Notice

7/01/2009 - received rescheduled Appt. Notice

7/23/2009 - Biometr. Appt.

7/24/2009 - A touch, a touch!

8/20/2009 - APPROVED! Oh, glorious day!

8/25/2009 - Card production e-mail received

8/31/2009 - Card received. Error :(

9/05/2009 - Returned green card with evidence of error & I-90

9/16/2009 - received I-797C (receipt date 9/14)

10/27/2009 - Correct card issued
