Hahahaha come visit me in Cali hahaha. I love watching The Big Family cooking show and any cooking competition. Have you seen The Final Table on Netflix? It’s really good. I once tried to make Irish soda bread, it came out good but after an hour it turned into a rock hahahhahahaha. Is there a difference between sausage rolls that Australian people make to the one British people make?

The first time I heard someone say minced pork, I was like, what’s a minced pork? Minced sounds fancy than ground hahaha.

I think I just mean that it would bring more of an understanding of the immigration situation in the US for all. Times are definitely strange in the US and I know that educating ppl may bring understanding and that can only be a good thing.

True, I would said educate people worldwide because this problem is not in the USA only. Immigration laws are almost the same everywhere in Europe and USA. More people should be educated and be aware of the stress immigrants are under going.

I just saw this on HuffPost's Facebook page.

Some of the comments are down right ignorant. I just wanted to post it here as it's on the same lines of discussion we were talking about.

Take a read of the comments but prepared to be mad.

A few days ago, on an immigration news post on Instagram, someone sustained that getting the citizenship was easy and for free.

"Isn't she a citizen because she's married?"

"She was legal as soon as she got married"

"She's stupid because she could have just become a citizen through marriage."

These people just don't understand immigration at all. There are also some seriously racist comments, too

Lol. I've had multiple people (his co-workers/family) ask me if I got married just for the green card.

Yes, I left my northwestern European country with great healthcare for guns and donuts. You got me.

For British folks....

I'd love battered sausages, greasy fish and chips, English fry's, beans, more beans, soda bread, pastie baps!! Chips and gravy/curry. I'd love Cadbury's, plenty of Easter Eggs to spoil myself in waiting for Easter, Magners, cheap stella. Oh my list goes on and onnnnn.... :P

Foods I desperately miss:

  • Battered sausages
  • Fish and Chips
  • Wetherspoons Buttermilk Gourmet Burgers and also their Crispy Chicken Wraps
  • Beans
  • Sausage Rolls
  • Sausage (The American attempt at what they call 'bangers' are a poor imitation - sorry America)
  • Cadbury's (Walmart only has Dairy Milk bars)
  • British KFC (As weird as it sounds, ours is just better. Popcorn chicken & gravy 😍😍)
  • Dr. Oetker pizzas
  • British crisp/chip flavours such as prawn cocktail, cheese and onion etc
  • Flapjacks
  • Cornish Pasties
  • Sunday Roast Dinners (Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner was good here...but I was sad to miss out on Yorkshire pudding, duchess potatoes, potato croquettes, beef gravy, real pigs in blankets etc)
  • Angel's Delight
  • Kinder Bueno

The list could go on, but those are my main things.

Things I have so far made here are:

  • Flapjacks
  • Fish and Chips (Walmart has Youngs Battered Cod imported from the UK in the frozen section)
  • Yorkshire pudding
  • Angel's Delight
  • Chocolate Cornflake Treats (The ones you make in primary school in cupcake cases)

I have sourced the following

World Market:

Golden Syrup
Baked Beans

Kinder products

Walmart:

Cadbury's Dairy Milk (Regular, Caramel, Fruit & Nut)

Patak's Indian Simmer Sauces (Tikka, Korma, Madras, Rogan Josh, Biryani)

Jacob's Crackers

Aldi:

Red Leicester Cheese

Wensleydale Cheese

English Cheddar Cheese

If someone knows how to make sausage rolls here, or rather...knows of a more British tasting style sausage meat to use...please let me know. I can make them at home but have no clue what meat to use here that tastes authentic.

They have twiglets at World Market too, if you like those! The Cadbury's at Walmart doesn't taste the same though. :(

For sausage roll meat I tend to used the Jimmy Dean original sausage meat and just put in onion and sage and wrap it in puff pastry. I need to work on my presentation a little but people here loved them! It isn't 100% perfect, but it'd pretty close to what my dad made.

Cadbury, Ritter Sport, Lindt - huge disappointment. It is made locally with just typical American ingredients...

Hershey's make it all! They've blocked Cadbury's from selling British made chocolate in the USA - instead they make it and it isn't the same recipe used. I've had my mum sending it over for me, and my husband definitely prefers it. 😂

Absolutely true! And many people get so shocked when they get to try the original one :D In my opinion though, even any crappy and cheap Russian chocolate from a store is waaaaaay better than anything they call chocolate here. 🙊

No, I know what you mean! The Cadbury's from Walmart tastes like a cross between a Hershey bar and a Dairy Milk. American chocolate to me just tastes like the cheap Christmas tree hanging chocolates from when I was a kid and tastes cheap. I'll still eat it, but begrudgingly.

In regards to sausage rolls, I'll definitely have to give the Jimmy Dean a try. The weird thing is, you'd think Sausage Rolls would be a popular item here. I think they would be, especially the cocktail sausage rolls. The American style pigs in blankets remind me of cocktail sausage rolls, but using hot dog instead
