Guess which company is telling me not to submit.

I don't know how they're still in business. 😂 Some "Tax Professionals" they are.

Unfortunately they're the only ones we can go to for the passport sign off, the nearest IRS office is unreachable for us. I'm trying to work out whether I can just use what they did on the return for him and just add my foreign income (and then exclude it) or if it's just going to change everything. I'll talk to him about using the turbotax software tonight though.

Awww i'm sorry your going through this! Hoping your approval for combo and SSN comes asap!!! ❤️

A noncontributory, inflammatory post has been removed, along with a post quoting.

Administrative action has been applied.

Please remain positive toward one another during this infernal immigration process.

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thank you x.x

Thankfully we have our ITIN documents ready to send off, but as soon as they're mentioned most people get a bit cagey about doing anything. I'll look into the TurboTax software and talk to my husband about it when he's home from work.

I'm mostly just frustrated because I'd pretty much done everything else for her; the Foreign exclusion form etc was all filled in, I just didn't know where to add it on the actual 1040...@-@

Thanks again. ❤️

Schedule 1, line 21 as a negative number. Describe it as "Foreign Income, form 2555EZ" in the blank.

Then transfer it to the 1040, page 2, line 6 as a negative number.

So it turns out I was missing the bit on the 2555-EZ which states "Schedule 1"; so I was trying to fit all of it onto the 1040 and getting very confused. Doh!

Thank you so much ❤️

I did find a handy little guide; it's aimed at expats but it includes the foreign income exclusion, so if someone else is trying to do their taxes on their own for whatever reason: https://www.greenbacktaxservices.com/blog/expat-taxes-explained-completing-form/

Oh my buddy from Cali just got his combo today - mid Oct filer (I think?). I'm always so super happy to see approvals for other people - it just really changes peoples lives in all forms (as cliche as it is to say) - emotionally for beneficiaries, financially for couples and socially as beneficiary can interact in new work environments. We will get there everyone! ❤️

A southern expression I have learned is "you ain't never lied!" which means "Well isn't that the truth!". I cannot wait to actually drive myself to anywhere, actually meet ppl, and wear real clothes. I'm PD Oct 22nd. Soon I shall be a human once again. I will never advocate the K1 Visa especially if it's at the insistence of a US petitioner who has NO clue of what we've all been through. Seriously, love you guys. You're my "Wilson".

Oof, fully agree with you there; anyone asks about the K1 route I'll probably either break down and cry or recommend them doing anything other than this.

Back when I was a blue-eyed Visa Filer, I genuinely thought that the K1 Visa was the way to go. Admittedly at the time we were considering them, K1 Visas only took four months and EADs were processed in a maximum of 90 days. Jokes on us, I guess. 😂

And; you're super knowledgeable about things and very helpful, so love you too. :P

I would still go for a K1, as our consulate is so backlogged, that if we had gone for a CR1, we'd still be waiting for an interview.

As a beneficiary, I'd like to get the combo card/GC asap, just to feel free. It is not that I'm eager about finding a full time job immediately after; it's this lack of freedom that sometimes TRULY gets on my nerves.

I think to myself for me personally it was not the best timing 'time wise' to go the K1 in the last year. There's many things I appreciate about this particular route and then draw backs.

I just wish maybe EAD's were spread out across different processing centres to speed processing times or maybe combo cards were spread out to be processed by LFO's. Like for example, at the start of April, early December filers will be about hitting their 4th month of waiting. Mid April early December filers will begin to be in 'normal processing times'. My math is poor, so hope I worked that out correctly lol.

It just seems that the NBC is waayyy behind and has loads of catching up to do. Kinda makes sense with them slightly increasing their processing times this week

While the CR1 has its benefits, I personally hated being so far away from my partner. Dealing with the long-distance or the timezones really sucked, and while the K-1 has the added requirement of Adjusting Status, I would much rather do that with both of us physically in the same place. I would say, for those of us that did the K-1 and then adjusted status, do try to remember how difficult the period of waiting was without our now-spouses.

I do agree. For me, the longing while faraway, was so painful. Those months went by so slow, and each and every time we met, I dreaded our farewell and felt the deepest void afterwards.

Weird enough, after moving, took me some time to actually grasp I was not visiting -a few times my heart skipped a beat when thinking about leaving again, just to feel the greatest relief a second later when I realized we were together for good-.

Yes. Only that when you wait for a k1, you're also apart. We applied for a k1 on October 2017 but didn't come to the States until the end of September 2018... I honestly think that one is not better than the other, but coming here and be able to work instead of sit around waiting for ridiculous processing times would be nice. :)  I guess mine took a bit longer than average because of the embassy, but still... It was a nightmare, we visited each other, but that it just not enough, right?
