Now I totally regret not applying for SSN. I decided when the 90 days was almost up! Too late! Huhu

It sucks but this is all a learning experience for everyone. Perhaps somebody will come across this thread who is looking for answers and will be helped by your error. You will have it soon  with your EAD no doubt. Hang in there❣

I have a off question.

I want travel inside on USA. However, my olny form of ID is my expired passaporte.

Do do you know if I will have trouble? Because it still a ID.

Generally no. Your ID must still be unexpired. SOME TSA agents may let you but it's a risk. You would probably have to wait to apply for a state issued ID.

No update on the returned greencard still. But this one appeared today. I guess I am in limbo. I hope the person who wanted that is happy. :)

We did get a 551 stamp, but it basically says I'm eligible for work and nothing about being able to travel. In case I need to go back home, do you think it will suffice?

"I'm a tax professional, trained with the IRS and I've done my research - you don't need to do this thing that the IRS website tells you that you need to do."

Pretty much what I was told this morning by the tax preparer who insists I can file jointly with my husband without doing a foreign exclusion. 🙃I even had a printed copy of the IRS page. She's "going to look into it again", and phone my husband this afternoon - translation is that she's going to tell him to file it as it is (her response to us not having sent it off already was "oh lord." and just other generally belittling behaviour about how she's the professional.)

I have never been so angry in my life. She won't talk with me either.

What I'm worried about, is that she's been "doing these for years"; how many other people are out there who haven't had their taxes filed properly?

Without doing a foreign exclusion? Does she not want you to try to exclude your foreign income? :P

EDIT: I actually just noticed in your previous post that you say you can't use TurboTax cause of the ITIN issue. Now, I may be completely wrong but I think you may be able to go in person to get your documents verified which will mean you won't have to send your passport anywhere: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/how-do-i-apply-for-an-itin

Also, if you're looking at Turbotax, I'd recommend you grab the standalone software which you can pay for and download over their site rather than doing their web-version. The standalone software lets you see the actual forms as you fill them in, which we found to be really helpful as we understood where everything was actually going. The up-front cost for Turbotax wasn't ideal, but if you're already paying someone to prepare your taxes, I'd rather be comfortable with them! :P

She doesn't want me to report it AT ALL.

After reviewing the 1040 I think I know where to put the relevant figures, but I would have much rather done it with a tax professional. Only thing I can think of doing (because we're running short on time and I don't trust the mail service), is to file it as it is, and then file an amendment later. I just feel super nauseous at the moment with the stress. No one else will even talk to us about it because of the ITIN application.

In her words "I haven't been here long enough, and that money is from before."

I'm not a tax professional but not reporting it at all doesn't sound right... Also I edited my previous post to include some more information that may help you.

What I will say is though, do not stress out over this! You have about a month to actually file, and you've got to remember that all you have to do is mail it by the deadline, it doesn't actually have to arrive by then. Obviously, make sure you get the proper kind of insurance and delivery service when you do send it (just to be on the safe side). Even then, mail to the IRS seemed to be relatively quick when we sent ours in.

Thank you x.x

Thankfully we have our ITIN documents ready to send off, but as soon as they're mentioned most people get a bit cagey about doing anything. I'll look into the TurboTax software and talk to my husband about it when he's home from work.

I'm mostly just frustrated because I'd pretty much done everything else for her; the Foreign exclusion form etc was all filled in, I just didn't know where to add it on the actual 1040...@-@

Thanks again. ❤️

You can also apply for an extension, and then would have until October 2019 to file taxes.

If I was filing on my own I would; I don't think my husband's blood pressure would take it!!!

Can't wait for next year, though; taxes will be a cake walk in comparison to this year x-x

Oh! No, your right- I had to declare my income from UK! Doesn't matter how long from my understanding but if you are MJF it needs to be declared. It's nearly as bad as H&R block asking my husband to forge her signature on documents we needed to submit. I was like as if we'd forge that, like seriously?! ... we found H&R block quite unprofessional asking that. I'm sure many have had positive experiences with H&R though but just what we found

Guess which company is telling me not to submit.

I don't know how they're still in business. 😂 Some "Tax Professionals" they are.

Unfortunately they're the only ones we can go to for the passport sign off, the nearest IRS office is unreachable for us. I'm trying to work out whether I can just use what they did on the return for him and just add my foreign income (and then exclude it) or if it's just going to change everything. I'll talk to him about using the turbotax software tonight though.

Hey! As far as I know the 551 stamp is a stamp providing temporary evidence of LPR allowing you to both work and travel international! :)
