My personal accountant for the past 6 years just informed me he doesn’t specialize in immigrant filing for taxes and that I should find someone else for this year. Where have you guys had good luck? Has anyone used turbo tax and done it themselves?

We first used H&R Block (Bad mistake) and then used Turbo Tax. Turbo Tax were great!! Highly recommend them :)

I have my interview next month and am worried because we dont have joint asset because i have no ssn so my husband can't add me to anything at this point. I would appreciate the help i can get here, what other evidence can we bring???

Thanks in advance

Just few ideas:

- wedding photos

- marriage certificate

- were you able to get on his health insurance during open enrollment without a SSN (some companies won't but some may)

- do you have copies of any mail addressed to you both?

- are you listed on car insurance - even as a permit holder? Again dependent on State you live

- are you listed on 401K?

- I assume your listed on the lease?

- any joint gym membership? Costco membership (I know this obviously costs) but neither require SSN I think

I may be wrong but I believe the Bank of America allow joint accounts without a SSN - not sure if that 100% accurate and not sure if your willing to change bank accounts

I don't think they will be hard on you as a SSN is the unfortunate key to many things. You can't do or join a lot of things without it. I don't think they will penalize you as they would understand surely

Thanks for your advice. We try everything but they say they need my ssn. On our interview day it will make exactly 4 months of marriage. The current job he have now doesn't have a retirement so hes on the sesrch for a new one..

sorry to interfere, but did turbotax guide you through the whole process? did they ask you about your global income? and if you have bank accounts in your home country?

We had some evidence but they didn't ask for any. Do you have a rental agreement on your names or a phone plan? Your husband can add you to the electric and water bills at least. Photos can work fine too.

Thanks, He was trying to add me to the gas bill but I don't think we will get it in time for the interview.. we gonna take cards, Facebook screenshots and also email.. My husband said he's may ask the landlord to write a letter stating I live here too..

Have you and your husband done anything together with a receipt with both your names on it? Like, my husband and I went to NYC in December together so I have our plane tickets and airbnb reservation information printed out for when we do our interview.

I mean, I just suggested that maybe something similar would be useful for the interview if they don't have any co-mingling finances or both parties names on bills. It would at least show that the couple is doing stuff together. Not the most solid evidence, but if theres nothing else it might be worth having and showing.

I didn't want to sound snobby in the message me and my wife have mutual bank accounts and we just provided them with 2 years of work direct deposits and transactions showing shopping bills, car payments, utilities, rent and all it is the easiest way in order not to have to provide anything else pretty much. Bank account shows all translations in and out and all the join financial life.
