HUGE CONGRATS!!!!! We have our interview on June 11th in San Diego! How was the overall process? Pretty simple? And how long did you wait around in the office, etc? Thanks :)

Thank you so much ☺️ and congratulations on your interview date!
Yes the overall process is pretty simple. The security guards and receptionist were very nice and helpful.
12:10pm interview time
11:40am arrived - sweating bullets at this point 😅
12:45pm finally called in for our interview
1:15sh pm done
I was really hoping for one of those interviews you read about when the IO is just so friendly and super conversational and people are in and out within 20 minutes but of course we got an officer who just went point by point 🤣 While he was going over the yes or no portion of the I-485 he knew those questions by heart. Kept eye contact with me that whole time 👁 lol so it’s very true when they say it pays to be prepared.
Let me know if you have any other questions! 👍🏼

My K2 daughter will turn 21 mid December 2019. Anyone know any thing about "aging out" for AOS? Hopefully this is not a concern but the estimated timelines are sooooo far out now.

Day 201 here.

Just a general question for everyone since it was a hot-ish topic a few months ago. Of those of you who were expecting tax refunds, how many of you have received them? Matt and I were expected almost 2k, sent our taxes at the beginning of March, and still haven't gotten anything. We knew it was going to take a little longer because we had to mail it (as did all of ya'll), but even the IRS website says 4-6 weeks for mailed with DD. I also tried calling their tax question hotline, and it hung up on me after saying that all of their agents were busy rather than putting me on hold.

We're literally having no luck with any government agency ☹️

We got one. It took almost 6 months after I sent it in the mail (we filed for extension, and my tax preparer was in the hospital so it was so delayed I had to mail it). When we received the first check, we thought it looks fake and followed the instructions on the website haha. I think, after they said they send it out again it took easily another 2 months! We just got it last week and cashed it yesterday - straight into savings to buy land one day in the desert.... :)

11/25/2017 - AOS Papers Sent

11/27/2017 - Package delivered by FedEx

12/07/2017 - NOA1's received in the mail

12/15/2017 - Biometrics Appointment letter received scheduled for 12/27/2017

12/22/2017 - Biometrics done I-485 & I-765 via Walk-In Brooklyn (done in under 15 Minutes)

02/14/2018 - Service Request to expedite my EAD put in via Hotline plus contacted my Congressman for help

03/13/2018 - EAD & AP approval Letters in the mail (106 days since filing)

03/15/2018 - EAD/AP Card in the mail <3

We also thought the k1 process was going to be the long part .. jokes on us as well! Haha you’re definitely not alone! I know there’s a couple of October filers that haven’t received approval yet as well which is so ridiculous. I had hopes of being a randomly selected couple for each application but I’m confident it’s never going to be in the deck of cards for us 😂

I’ll be looking out for your approval!

I will be looking out for your as well! Fingers crossed :)

Just read on another thread someone posting about USCIS giving priority to files from 2019, in order to fight the backlog.

Don't know how accurate this is, but the poster that shared it seemed pretty confident. :P

He actually posted a link from the USCIS official site, citing that practice for asylum petitions. So it could be applied to ALL petitions.

https://www.uscis.gov/news/news-releases/uscis-take-action-address-asylum-backlog

Here, an extract from the USCIS site:

"To address this problem, USCIS will follow these priorities when scheduling affirmative asylum interviews:

  1. Applications that were scheduled for an interview, but the interview had to be rescheduled at the applicant’s request or the needs of USCIS;
  2. Applications pending 21 days or less since filing; and
  3. All other pending applications, starting with newer filings and working back toward older filings."

Interesting article, thank you for the post!!

I did consider this as an explanation for the high number of Feb/March 2019 approvals. It's a sneaky way of reducing the "average" processing time.

By approving applicants after 40-50 days it reduces the average processing time significantly. As shown on VJs' predicted approval dates (125 days for EAD/AP) when October/November 2018 have been waiting 190-200+ 😡😡

Who knows what goes on! Whole process is incredibly unfair 😔😔

Hi all, long time lurker and reader - and fellow November AOS filer.

I did receive the EAD/AP approval 'relatively' quickly on 18th March this year.

Related - I can confirm that the process of entering the US with the AP card is a much more painful process than it was before!

Previously my  L1 visa and Global Entry combination meant I was through immigration and customs in no time at all - often beating my USC wife. The last two times I've entered it has involved sitting in 'secondary' for at least 30 minutes waiting to be 'paroled' - almost missed our connection in Houston on Monday!

Now we are waiting at the mercy of the Washington DC office for our interview notice...
