Started my call with USCIS at 7:03am CST. "You're wait time will be 1-3 minutes". It picked up to their tier 1 officer immediately. I explained the BC issue and she escalated my call. "You're wait time is 5-10 minutes". After an hour of sitting on hold some guy picks up and asks me my name and date of birth.

Him: Are you calling for yourself or someone else?

Me: I'm calling on behalf of my husband

Him: Is he with you?

Me: No, because I have to be at work. And guess what!? He can't be with me at work because he can't be employed because you all are slow

Him: *sits in silence for about 30 seconds* I need his authorization to discuss the case

Me: I got his authorization before I left for work

Him: I need to hear him say it

Me: Well, he can't because he's not here.

Him: Then there is nothing I can do for you right now

Me: So you're gonna let me sit on hold for an hour last night and an hour this morning and then go 'sorry we wasted your life'? Just like with how long this ******** process is taking?

Him: *More silence*

Me: Why did someone say they were going to escalate my call if they knew you all couldn't do anything if my husband wasn't present with me?

Him: *30 seconds of silence* I don't know
Me: You need to provide better training. That should have been told to me immediately rather than wasting my day.

Me: *hangs up*

If any of you all ever wanted to yell at USCIS, I got you already.

They're a-holes. I'm sorry. :(

Wasn't sure about liking your post, as this level of incompetence is not to be liked. I'm glad you had the chance to let them know.

People tend to claim that the backlog and longer waiting times are caused by increased scrutiny, but it is clear that the lack of professionalism is to blame.

I get that they said they needed his authorization to discuss it, but at the same time why did they let me sit on hold for an hour with that infuriating hold music if they knew my husband wasn't with me (which I did tell the first person I talked to). I think as a spouse and the signer of the affidavit I should be given some clearance to talk about the case. I almost had one of the guys I work with come and say they were Matt, but I had already shown my cards.

Literally that is exactly that happened to my wife. I called back furious checked with them and it is true. Spouse can call for I-485 but not for I-765.

I dont see what they would be able to? The immigrant is the petitioner/applicant on all three forms. The USC is only the applicant for the I864.

You are probably right whenever my wife called for I-485 they asked are you the applicant or the petitioner and she said I am the USC and by husband is the beneficiary and they always talked to her. Only for the I-765 they said it is my application and that she cant ask questions without me.

Thing is you shouldn't be in this position in the first place.

What they're dealing with is an amazingly important issue that costs each of us a lot, financially and emotionally.

We follow all their instructions. We patiently wait, longer each day. And despite all those rules and claims of the process being rigorous, the outcome is more a matter of luck? If the agent picked one file instead of another, if he/she is lazy or not, if they're in a good or bad mood.

I'm truly angry on your behalf and you deserve to get your husband's interview scheduled ASAP. That's the least they could do for you both after that mistake they made.

Yeah, you're telling me! We've pretty much come to the conclusion that my BC is totally fine but that they just lost it. This is just what happens when you hold onto documents for 6 months.

The NBC in Lee's Summit is 15 mins from where I live, so if I ever end up working there I'll show them how NOT to lose documents like this.

As far as I saw, you're right. Nowhere does it show country of issue but I thought this was pretty normal and that they'd know this having received many UK BC's.

Thank you though! My wife is repeat calling USCIS this morning to clarify, and I have an InfoPass scheduled for Tuesday for another matter so I'll also raise it with them then and see what they say. All I could really do was re-send another copy, you can't translate a BC that's in English, to English that makes no sense at all

I got a bit paranoid and checked my BC. Mine is slightly different, as you know NI is different (Brexit joke) LOL. Mines says on the top before certified copy "The Births and Deaths Registrations (Northern Ireland) Order 1976, Article 34". It's also got a non-shiny seal at the bottom "General register office for Northern Ireland' - wander why English BC's don't have this. Actually mine is laid out a little different but all the same info

Trying to keep the hope alive! And it certainly helps seeing other November filers getting approved! Our received date is November 16 so here's hoping that ours arrives soon as we have some travel plans for later in the year that we'd like to start up on.

I hope your greencard is not far behind!

I technically have two birth certificates, a short copy and then when I ordered my passport I had to get myself a new certified copy because my parents didn't want to pay for my actual birth certificate. But mine's the same layout as JunkTardis' - no seal on it.

I'm going to go ahead and say it's a USCIS agent who has never even looked at a foreign birth certificate before, and assumed that all foreigners must speak a different language. I mean hey - my mother in law didn't think we could drink the tap water in the UK.

I'm in the same situation regarding travel. I'm in two minds whether to wait another month and book something for August time. My fear is it'll get too expensive the longer I leave it, yet, i know it's recommended not to book anything just like the visa initially with K1. My timeline is 9-24th ish. It would be nice if it was accurate but time will tell. Of course, VJ is only small scale in terms of app's and predictions etc...

True!! They may even think I may speak Irish which I don't LOL! On a funny note I try to avoid drinking from the taps here in Vegas (except for brushing my teeth), we always filter using our pitcher water filter it as it's hard water and tastes all minerally LOL

I have the same problem here! To be fair I didn't like tap water where I was originally from, either, but it's worse here. Even the shower water has a really odd smell, compared to what I'm used to!
