It's called a courtesy letter because it's just that: a reminder that you have to fulfill the medical requirement of the AOS process if you have not already done so.

If you are a K1, you would have already done so.

An I693 Courtesy letter is not an RFE or a request for an I693. They have not even looked at your file to see if you submitted any medical documents. It's just a reminder. As a K1 who filed AOS within one year of your overseas medical exam start date and completed the vaccination requirements overseas, other than bringing your copy of the DS3025 Vaccination Record to the interview, you can disregard the Courtesy Letter.

well my courtesy letter clearly states that my application was incomplete because the i693 was missing and that I will have to bring one to the interview, whenever that will be. Since I really don't know anyone else adjusting from a K1 who received the same letter and since I tried calling them multiple times and no one was able to help me I think I will indeed do a i693 even tho I have a valid ds3025 which is annoying but I would rather not risk anything at this point

Well it's your money, lol.

As a K1, you dont need an I693. It's a courtesy letter not an RFE. K1s dont need an I693.

Directly from the USCIS I693 instructions:

"3. What if I am a K nonimmigrant visa holder and already had a medical examination overseas?

If you were admitted as a: A. K-1 fiancé(e) or a K-2 child of a K-1 fiancé(e); or B. K-3 spouse of a U.S. citizen or a K-4 child of a K-3 spouse of a U.S. citizen; and C. You received a medical examination prior to admission, then: (1) You are not required to have another medical examination as long as you file your Form I-485 within one year of an overseas medical examination; and (a) The panel physician did not find a class A medical condition during your overseas examination; or (b) The panel physician did find a class A medical condition, you received a waiver of inadmissibility, and you have complied with the terms and conditions of the waiver. (2) Even if a new medical examination is not required, you must still show proof that you complied with the vaccination requirements. If the vaccination record (DS 3025) was not properly completed and included as part of the original overseas medical examination report, you will have to have the Part 9. Vaccination Record completed by a designated civil surgeon. In this case, you must submit Parts 1., 2., 3., 4., 6., and 9. of Form I-693."

Keep in mind to that K1s are a small percentage of AOS filers so they don't send specific courtesy letters that reflect the exception to the medical requirements rule for us.

Trust that nobody has even looked at your A-file yet to see that you completed anything regarding the medical yet. That wont happen until the day of your interview or afterwards.

You arent the only one. You are asking in a VJ forum that has no more than 50 November filers in it while there are actually 50,000 November filers.

Even so, if they lost your original DS3025 you bring your copy to the interview as stated in the I693 instructions I posted.

Like I said it's your $1000. You can spend it as you like but it's not necessary and definitely should not be something to worry about or have an entire thread worried about when it's not true that you will need an I693 as a K1.

I don't want anybody to be worried about anything BUT since I have called USCIS several times and no one ever said to disregard the letter  or reassured me with what you are stating I also wouldn't want to risk to be denied because of that (as the letter states).

Did you tell a USCIS Tier 2 (supervisor) that you are a K1 and have already completed the medical requirement overseas?... Filed AOS within one year of your medical date?....Had no class A illnesses or if you did, received a waiver?...Provided your DS3025 Vaccination Record with your I485? And they still said you would need to bring an I693 to the medical?

Do your medical again then if you're worried but please come back to us and report back that you explained to the IO at your interview that you completed your medical overseas and submitted your DS3025, your IO located your medical records in your A-file at your interview and STILL required that you submit an I693.

If you do that exactly and the IO still stated your overseas medical wasnt good enough ill eat crow. But until then, you dont need one.

Yes of course I explained the whole situation to the tier 2! they never had an answer that I was satisfied with. One was saying that they sent it because my FO has long processing times and by the time I have an interview scheduled my ds3025 would be expired (does not make sense as otherwise half of vj would get this letter), an other one was saying that yes I need to redo it (without explanation). I called one last time last week and they just told me to schedule an infopass at my FO which ironically will stop accepting them from next week. It really sounds like a joke but immigration is something I really don't want to play with. I will of course share my experience on this.

Whomever you spoke to is just ignorant then and doesnt know the K1 policy. It's stated in the I693 as clear as day. You can find MANY posts on VJ about this topic too if you search "K1 I693". I for one, have to inform ppl almost daily when this question comes up but there are countless others who know this is the correct procedure for K1s and post as well. I'd take a look yourself.

Good luck in whatever you do but when it's finally all said and done please be a spokesperson too.

PS the DS3025 and medical exam will never expire provided you completed all of the conditions of the medical exam and vaccination requirements and filed AOS within one year. They were speaking on the validity of the I693 which expires in TWO years as of Nov 1st, 2018 so there again, they were wrong and are clearly clueless.

I agree with you NO ONE of the many people I talked to knew anything which is really frustrating knowing that that's their job

I agree with you about USCIS not knowing much but that is the norm. Be confident that the many ppl who are helping on VJ do know the policy though. I have posted a few links (that I had no participation in either, lol) so you can see that what I've said is true.

Your courtesy letter should also state to bring a new medical unless already submitted. Those three words are key for a K1 as you HAVE already submitted your medical at your POE.
