Today I just got 18 months Extension letter.

19 Nov 18:  Received  my package

 Jan 4th 19:  fingerprint complete

Absolutely! Your application of Naturalization is independent of this application. Both processes can run simultaneously.

 

I see many people do it and receive their confirmation without any issue.  We're planning to do the same.

I was thinking to do the same. Then I read that the backlog we are experiencing with the I751 is pushing back in line people with a combo interview. You lose your place in line with the I751.

Many of applicants who showed up for naturalization interview were sent back to wait for their I751 to be approved or scheduled first. Few have smooth process. 

I don't know,  I feel like I rather let my I751 to be approved first,  I might not need an interview in that case. Then, I'll apply for citizenship. 

I want to avoid the mess or extending my immigration journey with 2 applications that would take forever. 

But that's just my opinion 😉!

 

Someone did something really smart. He waited to receive his interview appointment on his I751 form. As soon he received his appointment letter for I751, he filed for citizenship. By the time he passed the I751 interview,  he also passed the biometric appointment on his N400. Then later he ended his journey smoothly with his final N400 interview. He didn't lose his place in the line for the I751 and his naturalization process went really fast.

And many applicants get approved on the I751 without interview when they only have one application.

I agree with you. If you follow the I751 and N400 thread you will see how those who filed for N400 with pending I751 delayed the approval of I751. 

 

 I'm gonna be eligible to file sometimes in June. I think Im gonna wait until I got approve for I751 before I do N400.  

 

Also some people get lucky where applying for N400 doesn't affect their I751. So it's always your decision to do whatever you like.

I disagree with that approach based on experience some other people and our lawyer has shared with us. Each application is processed individually.

That is true that they will approve the both at same time.

The other thing to note is that N-400 processing team varies a lot depending on where you live.  My local office has a long enough processing time for citizenship, that I expect ROC to be done before it would get adjudicated.  I think it's a personal preference thing, but I want to kick off the citizenship process as soon as possible, even if it delays ROC a bit, as citizenship is our ultimate goal.

My local office has a 3.5 to 9 months time frame at the moment and if it's like that come October, it would probably be better for me to do that.

The general advice from this community, at least as of a few years ago, is that applying for citizenship while removal of conditions is still pending "forces" USCIS to adjudicate the pending removal of conditions "immediately" so that they can process the  N-400. But things change and every case is its own case.

 

I'm still undecided whether to recommend that my wife apply for citizenship in November if her removal of conditions is still pending then. They still haven't even given her an extension letter.
