So I just traveled overseas with an extension letter and I figure I'd share my experience if some of you are about to travel.

I traveled from O'Hare (Chicago) to Brussels (Europe).

To my big surprise, everyone from flight attendant to border agents were very familiar with the letter.

I didn't need to explain my situation, and they knew right away what it was.

The only thing I couldn't do was to check in online before my flight because of the expired date of the green card.

When I landed in Chicago, I couldn't register on the automatic kiosks and was guided to an officer.

He asked if I was removing the conditions of my green card, wrote down the new expiration date of my green card and asked me to wait for a higher grade officer.

I had to wait in secondary inspection for maybe 2 minutes and the agent gave me my document back and told me everything looks good and that I was good to go.

Border patrol seem very familiar with the extension letter and make no fuss about it.

Good luck for the ones traveling soon!

I travelled last week as well from JFK NY to  Kingston Jamaica on my NOA extension letter no issues the officer just took my GC and the letter did my right hand 4 finger prints and I was on my way. He just asked me what state I lived in and I answered then he said ok you're good to go enjoy your day.

Hello guys ! i filled too by myself , Nov 19th if i remember correctly! , i received my Extension letter in February

and i have couple of questions!

1 . is it possible to travel over seas with a copy of extension letter? ( not the original one) as i'm in a different state and i want my wife to keep the originals back home.

2. what is happening with the time processing? is this normal to i-751 to be so slow?

I've been reading here once on Nov 2018 i-751 that someone did not have to go for fingerprints and got approved instead?

Thank you sincerely .

No you have to travel with the original.

Yes ROC is very backlogged so it takes a long time.

Yes sometimes they reuse the bio.

Welcome and good luck.

have you heard if anyone faced any problem in the same situation? I am planning for one month trip but my lawyer says It is very risky and he never recommend me to travel.

I am student here and to be honest he scared me.

anyone knows if traveling overseas before removing the condition may increase the background check when you go to interview? or it make your case longer than normal?

Highly unlikely unless you spend long enough out of the country that it may trigger concerns of abandonment.

We just got our biometrics letter yesterday, 150 days after filing.  They gave all of 10 days notice to appear for the appointment. CSC is finally catching up--quite surprised how little notice they're giving.
