Hi Amanda,

Hope you are doing well!

May I ask who is the one that books the interview?  Petitioner or Beneficiary?

And does this have to be done after the beneficiary submit her DS160 Form?

After the embassy receive the DS160 Form, does the embassy assign an interview date?

Or is it the beneficiary's responsibility to book the interview date?

Sorry for asking so many questions.  But I am a bit confused.

Thank you, Amanda.

Chris

Usually you will not receive the P3 letter in the mail. Do an online service request. They will respond typically in 2 -3 days with the instruction (P3). You will need to submit D-160 and pay the visa fee, then schedule the medical afterward. Technically, you will need the P3 to complete the medical exam, although some have gotten by with just the interview confirmation. I wouldn't risk it and would just request that they email it to you via: https://vn.usembassy...a-inquiry-form/  When using the form be sure to add in the comments section the last 4 digits of your SSN or they will email you back asking for it which causes further delays.

Woohoo! We got our case number today 11/28/18! Since we have our case number, will we be able to schedule the medical and interview? Or should I wait to receive the physical letter from the NVC to do all of that?

That is great news!

Hi everyone! Does updating both petitioner and fiancé's email address at https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/ask-nvc.html work? Is it just as fast as calling NVC to know if they received the case/assigned the number/sent it to the embassy? Do we still need to call or just wait for the email from them?

Apologies if somebody already asked a similar question. Just wondering if calling is still the best way to get updates. I usually prefer emails 😂

Hi everyone,

I went to the website :

https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?App=IV

and selected non-immigant visa and my case number to track it.

But it told me my case number was invalid.  I called the NVC and

was told that this website does not work for K-1 visa.

Could anyone help?

Thank you so much,

Chris

You select "immigrant" and then enter your case number and here is why. The K-1 process is quite strange. For a time, it is both a non-immigrant and immigrant visa type. That is why the links (what you received in the email) will send you the process for immigrant which would be the I-864 and DS-260 even though it truly is a non-immigrant visa requiring I-134 and the DS-160. As you go through the stages, within the NVC system you look up your file under immigrant (ceac.state.gov/). It stays that way until after your interview and the approval and your visa is ready for issue. At that point, it changes over to non-immigrant. It truly is a non-immigrant visa with immigrant intent.

It is not tied to the embassy/country as it is a USCIS/DOS process. I can only explain it this way. The K-1 process is quite strange. For a time, it is both a non-immigrant and immigrant visa type.
