Receipt date for a case inquiry

Does this mean the date the USCIS are currently processing or the date at which you are able to request a case update?  USCIS tell me that that is the date they are working on a case but I disagree.  Anyone shed any light on this please?

Cases before that date can submit a case inquiry to try to learn the status of their case. The case is considered out of normal processing timelines if beyond that date.

A case inquiry doesn't speed up processing, though...it's informational only.

 

USCIS processes cases for a wide range of timelines at a time. Some a month or 2 in front of yours may still be pending. Some months behind you may have been adjudicated.

I always use the example of a grocery store with hundreds of checkout lanes. Some are faster than others. Some are slower. You just don't get to choose which lane you are put into.

9/5/18: Interview scheduled notice, 10/17/18: Interview

10/24/18: Green card produced notice, 10/25/18: Formal approval, 10/31/18: Green card received

5/1/2017: Case received by Manila (1 week embassy transfer??? Lucky~)

7/13/2017: Interview: APPROVED!!!

7/19/2017: Visa in hand

8/15/2017: POE
