Damaged sealed envelop

Hello fellow VJers,

 

We got the visa package from the embassy today in the mail however, the sealed envelop is damaged...(see attachement)

 

We can see the docs through the damaged area.

 

It's too late to contact the embassy today, we'll try to get in touch tomorrow and ask them what to do, we'd love to know if anyone had similar experiences and how it turned out in the end

Slight damage is not a problem.  If the side is ripped open allowing documents to be removed, that would be an issue.......imo

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Agreed. If the damage would make one wonder if the contents were potentially tampered with, then it's an issue.

Embassy should allow you to send it back to be resealed.

The corner cut is normal (for immigration / customs to see it's only documents inside).

The triangular tear about 1.5 or 2 inches at the top right or left corner of the envelope is normal. If you see the tear to be longitudinal, don't take risk of traveling with it. Report it to your embassy immediately and have them replace the envelope. The airline flight attendants are so ####### about this envelop. They have the right to offload you or deny you from boarding your flight to US.

The flight attendants don't care about the envelope. Only CBP checks it. Many travelers don't even get an envelope anymore as it is sent electronically to CBP beforehand.
