It would definitely be easier if she had applied for B2 BEFORE the K1 but that is in the past. I will say this though. My husband, with his B2 visa, came to visit me twice while waiting for the K1 to finalize. He was never asked a single question about the K1. He even came here WITH his K1 already in the passport and didn't even use it, he just presented his B2. The POE didn't even ask him about it. For extra caution, when he came here with a K1 and B2 at the same time but just wanted to use his B2, he only traveled with a large backpack, not a suitcase, so they wouldn't even believe he was trying to stay beyond his two week trip. If she gets it, just don't look suspicious going through POE haha.

You guys were lucky - in most cases a B1/B2 visa gets cancelled once a K/K2 issued :)

At the interview, we asked them not to cancel it even though they seemed to indicate it wouldn't be canceled anyway. We were approved in October and my husband had previously bought tickets to visit my family for Thanksgiving. He did not want to move to the US until March.

Wow...! Not often people experience that :)

Well,  really glad you had that possibility - to still use a B1/B2, after his K-1 got issued.

Good luck with your AOS!

A good tip for cheap tickets is if you have a VPN set-up on your computer, put yourself "inside" different countries when you go to buy tickets. I saved almost 200 dollars on my round trip ticket to Thailand by setting my VPN to a Thailand IP address and buying the tickets thru AIr China like I was doing it from Bangkok while I was sitting at home here in Nevada. If your buying tickets from the Ukraine, put yourself there when looking, you would be amazed the way prices change based on where you are in the world. You wouldn't think it makes a difference, but the airlines are all about the dollar, and If they see me in Las Vegas with my IP they figure he is a baller living in Vegas, he can afford the higher priced tickets, than a poor Thai National trying to visit family.  I'll throw a link below to a blog on a VPN site where they sell VPN access, and even though it isn't the one I use, and I'm sure there are cheaper ones out there, but it does a good job explaining how it works.

Wow, we can request them not to cancel current B1/B2 visa? I will ask the same in future :)

I still have B1/B2 valid for another 3 years, but during K1 visa process I am afraid to visit US, so best way to be safe, my fiancé they one coming in to visit me.

My now-husband visited me twice before that, even during the process. Like I said, they never questioned anything about the K1. With that said, he always came prepared with documents showing ties to his home country ready in his carry-on luggage to pull out at any point if someone asked. We were just shocked no one ever even asked about it, and this was at multiple airports.

@Loren Y I am constantly amazed at your attempts and various techniques you have to beat the system!

OP, I hope you guys can get your visitor visa. Good luck in your journey. The wait is long, but worth it!

Vaguely amusing that safervpn have differential pricing.

When I was arriving to the US with only a backpack I was pulled into secondary and the officer asked why I was only traveling with a backpack. I already had my 10 year GC then.

BTW I truthfully answered that my mom and I have the same clothes size and she could lend me some of her clothes.

That's so bizarre!! I travel with a backpack for a month or two at a time all over the world! So does my husband.

I prefer it that way too. Last time I traveled I had more luggage but next time I definitely want to go with a backpack only again. So much less stress. Except when you get pulled into secondary haha

P.S. Some people are afraid to mention on their  DS-160 who purchased  their tickets. From our experience - on my parents' DS-160s I honestly put  myself as a person, paying for their trip. And it wasn't a problem -  parents got approval at the spot.

sorry. this might sound stupid.

I am a little confused. On DS-160 we have to say who paid for the ticket? We have to buy tickets before the approval? Or we have to say who will buy the ticket?

No ticket is needed (nor should be purchased) before the visa is in hand.

The question is asking who will be paying for the trip.

Thank you.

My other question is can i do DS-160 for her or does she have to do it? Her English is not that great and I don't want her to make a mistake on the form because she didn't understand a question?

On the website this is what they are saying:

"Other people can assist you with your visa application.

Note that under U.S. law (22 C.F.R. 41.103) you must electronically

sign and submit your own application unless you qualify for an exemption.

Even if someone else helped you complete the application, you (the applicant)

must click the “Sign Application” button, or your application may not be accepted."

Any suggestions on how to do it. Can I do all the questions and then save it and she can open it, sign and send? Did anyone do it that way? Any better way?

Thank you guys for all your help.

There is a question, on  DS-160, "Travel Information" part - A person, paying for your trip.

here is an example
