Based on others' experiences, if they've said you can pick it up, you can authorize a friend or relative in Montreal to pick it up for you.

We don't know anyone in Montreal, so we wish to find some other service to pick it up on behalf, but cannot find such service. I'm stuck here in Ontario at lease till next week, wish the strike is over soon.

I don't think so it's going to end in a week. It might take a month atleast or even more. Why would you like to work when you can get paid without working.

Successfully collected my fiancée Ginnie's passport and package from the Consulate this morning. My daughter arrived there shortly after 10am, and was out with the package  in ~20 minutes.

My daughter and Ginnie are now driving from Montreal and Toronto respectively to Kingston, where they'll meet and pass the package along, so Ginnie can catch her flight to California tomorrow.

Finally an end to this ridiculous and contemptible visa process.

We had our K1 interview on the 17th and the CEAC website says the passport has been issued. How long after issuing did it take for most of you to receive tracking information? Worried with Canada Post potential strike that it could delay pick up.

msham, just wondering if you've received your passport yet? I had my interview on Oct 30 and was approved. My visa tracker says "issued" and should receive in the mail within 5 business days. However, it still says on the US consulate website that the passports are being held at the consulate as of Oct 17 and are not being mailed out. It says to contact them to arrange pick up from the embassy. I am wondering if this is still the case, or if that is old news and it just hasn't been updated? Have you (or has anyone else?) received their passport in the mail in the last two weeks?

I arranged for passport to be picked up by a relative at the consulate. The passports will be held, as far as I know, until the Canada Post strike is over.

To arrange this, are you able to change who picks it up after the interview? I noticed when I went to register the interview and such that it was saying if you're picking up from a Post Office you must state who is picking it up for you. How does this work for the consulate? I'm thinking that if the strike is still going when I do my interview, I may ask my cousin to pick it up for me as she lives close by - Just wanting to make sure I can appoint her to pick up the Passport after the Interview?

Thanks!

Yes, you can have a relative or friend pick it up for you. Just need a written authorization letter, the email sent out saying it needs to be presented as well (I believe it's posted in here), and I included my interview email.

Thank you for the info! Did you have to wait until you received a separate email for someone to go and pick it up? Or was it sufficient just to have your visa status say "issued"?

AFAIK. the choice is between picking the passport and package up or having it sit at the consulate until the postal strike is over (or the beneficiary dies of old age, whichever comes first). Apparently non-post-office courier services are NIH for the US Consulate. But you can have a third person pick it up for you, as I and several others have done (see above)

Just received basically the same email. I wish the consulate would allow Fedex or UPS to pick it up and send it or that we knew someone in Montreal. He's probably flying out Sunday night for Montreal.

When was your interview date ?
