So the brothers were told in writing prior to buying the land, that a permit would be required to cut trees down, and now they're angry that they are being fined for choosing to ignore the prior notice? 

 

What exactly is the problem here, and what has much of the right wing media so concerned?

Government usurping personal freedoms?  Beyond that I do agree, they were told they needed a permit, so not really certain why they thumbed their nose at that process.  Apparently, they thought there was a state agricultural exception to the local permitting process.  I do have an issue with the replacement of the trees prior to their removal, it would seem more prudent to allow for replacement afterward.

On my property, I cut whatever trees I feel like.  I also dig holes and catch rain water.  NO one will tell me how to handle my own property that I own.
