Hi. I'm new to this site and I'm praying that someone can help me. My wife and I have been married for 5 years and we have two beautiful daughters. We have not had much success with processing her immigration. She is a citizen of Liberia and has been in the US since 1989 (18 years, she was 10). I am a US citizen (born and raised). She was sent her to visit but, stayed and went to school. She never went back to Liberia because of the fighting and of course marriage and motherhood. She has worked and had a permit to work. Fairly simple scenario right?.......wrong.

Here's where our problem lies is......all the information that proves when she entered the US in 1989 has been destroyed by fire. We have nothing but her birth certificate and SSN that was giving to her so she could work. Because there's no proof, INS has been giving us all kinds of problems. Can someone help us? I'm afraid she will get deported.

We need more information to help you. What paperwork have you filed so far?

When she came here 18 yrs ago, she was not given a social security number so she could work. Back then they gave them out a lot easier than now. If she entered as a visitor, she was not allowed to work on that SS#.

I think in this case I would immediately find a good immigration lawyer. You don't want to mess with this nor let any of never in this situation give you advice.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I also have to agree. You definitely need to contact a lawyer but he is probably going to tell you she will need to come home while you file for her and even though coming back can be a problem b/c of a possible denial. You can probably go thru the steps BUT she will NEED to show "how she enter into the country" w/o that there will be a problem.

My friends son was also in this situation. He was here since he was 6 months old but once he turned 18 he had to volunteer to go back home w/in 180 of his 18th b-day. Since then he has step-mother has filed for me and his visa was approved. Yea, talk to a lawyer.
