This new proposed plan is total #######!!! Why do illegals get preferntial treatment over US citizens (with foreign born parents that may want to immigrate).

This is like a kick in the a$$ for those that follow the law and go through this long a$$ immigration process. We miss our families, we are seperated for long periods, just to make everything legit & by the rules. They break all the rules, pay a $5000 fine and they are home free?

Screw families being together, screw US citizen first treatment, screw following the set rules? What a smart plan they thought of. This is just one step above the previous idea of building a 2 foot chicken fence.

*Sorry for my complaining & ranting, i'm just a bit ticked off :protest:

So you think a $5000 fine is "home-free?" Wow. So can you loan me $5000 since you think it's such a small amount of money?

I've lurked here ever since my Canadian spouse came over to the US, and this off-topic forum makes me more and more ill everytime I read it. Nothing but a cesspool of racists and xenophobes. Makes me think we picked the wrong country and should've just headed to Canada where they don't have an irrational fear of brown people.

Yawn. The race card again. It's getting quite old.

A cesspool of xenophobes, eh? Xenophobes with foreign spouses. Beautiful!

Considering the many laws most of these illegals have broken (any one of which would likely leave each and every legal immigrant unable to adjust status or become a citizen), I'd say that $5K is home free. Tell those Americans that do time for the ID theft they committed that $5K for that and other crimes is a just fine.

I don't think having a trophy wife that's half your age insulates you from being called a xenophobe.

My point still stands: proposing a $5000 fine against "illegals" pretty much assures that none of them will take the legal route to citizenship. But don't let logic get in the way of the xenophobic freak-out you people are so good at.

Well, another waste of paper...just fine the $hit out of everyone that hires them, not a little fine but an EPA size fine and this will curb the illegal immigration, no jobs would mean that they would not come here. I am not racists, but I live in a border city and I see it everyday.

You are right... we are far too judging of other people - especially in a context when we know nothing about them....

I think you forgot to add a "mis" to the beginning of your handle....

It's not over yet. Everyone needs to hop on the phone and start calling the sell-out politicians.

And family unity? Sorry, I don't think that just because a person gets to come over here that they should be able to bring everyone else along with them. They make a choice to come here... if they want their family unity then they can stay home.

First of all, there is no prioity for families. My baby son is going without a mom for a year while we wait fer the pefectly legitamite visa application to go through., We've been married for years. I lost my job suddenly overseas and my backup job crashed at the same time. I had to go back home.

So what about Family Unity? Who gets rights? Does a citizen get rights? What rights can a citizen expect?

You are getting distracted from the real issues with "Willie Horton" tactics.

Certainly drawnig prfessionally qualified immigrants is a good idea - but the "Guest Worker Program" is not doing that. It is creating a caste of indentured servants who owe their legality entirely to the continued goodwill of their sole employer. They can't switch jobs. They have 1 job for the YEARS it takes to qualify for the a permanent visa, and, for all practical purposes, cannot switch. Is that a good idea?

I am much less 'down' on the illegal immigrants than most people here, it seems, but certainly there are some bvalid points to be made about them being illegal. We are doing our visa application legally, and suffering because of it. The system is bad, but we work through the system, like decent, law abiding citizens. Now our interests and RIGHTS are getting sold up river for a badly concieved law that is designed primarily to import cheap unskilled workers into slave like conditions?

There are patches available. There are things we can do to make the system more fair and more efficient. This bill ain't it. This bill is selling America out from under Americans.

I've lurked here ever since my Canadian spouse came over to the US, and this off-topic forum makes me more and more ill everytime I read it. Nothing but a cesspool of racists and xenophobes. yep, Senator Hutchison and Senator Cornyn seem to have forgotten all the "family values" stuff they were spouting during elections.

thanks

Dave Anders

Uh, Dave...they're both longtime Republican politicians from TEXAS. Are you at all surprised that they said one thing during the campaign and are now doing something different? Texas politics have always been in the gutter, but with the Republicans in charge it has only gotten worse. Almost makes me long for the 1980s. Almost.

So you think a $5000 fine is "home-free?" Wow. So can you loan me $5000 since you think it's such a small amount of money?

Hell, it should be $50,000 considering how much those damn bastards get free thru their criminal acts.

BTW, I'm a "brown person", the daughter of LEGAL immigrants and the wife of one soon to be, insha'allah.

The bill fixes nothing for Joe America, Family based immigration or legal immigrants it benefits young rich illegal immigrants who have nothing but time. Everyone else will stay illegal, either because they refuse to go home, or becaues they can't afford $5k

In my opinion there should be no forgiveness barring a few days overstay, illegal immigrants for whatever reason said 'screw you' to US immigration law, there is no reason to believe things will be different this time around and I think this is simply a band aid for the problems.

K3 approved 05/04/07 Leney is happy

You're some piece of work. Do you have anything to offer beyond accusations and personal attacks against the members of this family-based immigration community? Anything with substance? $5K is going to keep those folks from obtaining papers? How's life in your bubble?
