A friend came to the US on a visitor visa got the green I-94... I was trying to help her fill out some paperwork, but I came to the US on K-1 so am unclear on a few things like if she has an A#?? if not are you just putting none in those boxes?? There was nothing written on the back of the I-94 and the only #'s I saw on there was the "departure number". Thank you in advance for any advice I can pass on to this couple. :help:

Kez and elgringo,

They do if they've had prior dealings with USCIS or its' predecessor INS. StormnRolly doesn't give enough information to know whether or not the friend might have an A#.

No they dont have a A# so just put NONE....

StormnRolly,

People entering the USA using a "visitor visa" do not use a green I-94. I-94 is not green, it's white. I-94W is green and is used by people entering on the visa waiver program.

As far as I know this person doesn't have any prior dealings with the USCIS

So then when filing the I-130 I-485 etc do you use the # on the I-94W as you would from the I-94??

It must be so nice for you to be here going around picking people up on every technicality you can.... The OP did not give any indication that the person had had prior dealings with USCIS so the answer I gave is correct..... yes there will always be an exeption to to a situation.... but as we are here to give general info and as far as I know we do not require anyone to post a full and complete statement of the facts before they ask a question.... This is a public internet forum where people can come and talk to others who are or have been down the road.... Now if you want information that is covered by all the if's and but's then you go talk to a Immigration Lawyer not a group of people who are only trying to help support others.... Yes if people are giving totaly wrong information then pointing out the correct info is the way to go.... but to be picky just because you can see an exception to what has been said does not make you right and others wrong...

Kez,

Yes, your correct answer was a lucky guess. Granted, the odds were in your favor. Nevertheless, when someone does not provide sufficient information to answer their question it is prudent to get the necessary information before giving a definitive answer. Or give a conditional answer and state the condition.

Sometimes the consequences can be significant.

As a K-1 holder, you do have an A#. But if one's adjusting from a non-immigrant visa that is not marriage or family-related (like B-2 or F-1), he/she simply won't have an A# to put on the forms. You would just write "none".

Filed AOS from F-1
Green Card approved on 01/04/07
Conditions removed 01/29/09

Citizenship Oath 08/23/12

I am looking at my Fiance and Daughters K - 1 and K - 2 Visas and see no A #. However I do see an A # on the I - 797 NOA 2 in the space where the Beneficiary name is located. The # is A099 452 XXX. Is this the correct number that's being discussed here?

Thanks,

Chuck D
