Danish factory beer ban spreads

Danish manufacturing workers are up in arms over an attack on their workplace drinking habits.

Currently, only 13% of canteens in manufacturing companies serve beer for lunch, down from about 75% three years ago, according to Danske Idag.

Efforts by employers to restrict drinking has met with considerable resistance in some quarters.

Last year, Harboe Brewery workers went on strike for two days after being told to stop drinking beer while working.

The strike went ahead even though their quota of six bottles of beer per day would have remained unchanged.

The order merely said they would have to go for a break to enjoy their beer.

Health concerns and demands for greater efficiency have led many employers to restrict supplies and encourage workers to cut back on their drinking.

i dated a guy who's dad worked at AB in stl... the allotment of beer they got each month was amazing!!! made me want to work there

First of all I'm danish ... and we definatly like our beer ... most places it's not considered ok to drink while you work anymore. There's exceptions though. I used to work on a small cargo ship and at 10 am the skipper would call us up for the 10am beer break usually lead to 2 beers, made it interesting when you'd been painting all morning We'd usually have another beer or 2 at lunchtime and another beerbreak with the 2nd in command at 2pm when the skippers shift ended.

At the hotel I worked at before moving here, we'd usually not drink until after our shift was over, or at least close to over, more than once have I gone rather shitfaced home from work there - and it was free of course On my last day there the general manager even poured me my beers
