hi guys! soo i got our interview date (oct 15 wish me luck) and im just going over the documents we need. I have a question on the affidavit of support. can I bring it along with my fiance's W2s the day of the interview? the reason i ask is that in the email they sent says to "send it directly to this address" but i dont know what address they mean, or if they mean that the irs has to send it directly. im a week away so im freaking out a bit.

Hi guys! I just wanted to let you know I had my interview today. Everything went pretty smoothly I think, my medical examination hadn't reach them yet (the doctor's office said that they were delivered at the embassy this afternoon) so I wasn't able to get a yes or no today - but the questions were very easy and straight forwards and the officer was very nice. They kept my passport so Im hoping thats a good sign. Fingers crossed!

Hello, yeah it says issued now (since October 17). I’m assuming that means we got it 😊. How long after the interview did you get your passport back btw?

Hi all - is there a general rule of thumb for how early to get to the embassy before the interview is scheduled?

They let you into the building 10 minutes prior to the interview. Maybe 20/30 in case there’s a line? It’s more of a judgement call.

Approved! What a relief that is...

Just a couple of follow-up questions for the group that would be hugely helpful:

1. The "sealed envelope" that is referenced in everything I'm reading to hand to the Customs Officer upon arrival, is that given when we actually pick up the visa? (it was not given in the interview)

2. Is there a process for literally "scheduling" your point of entry? I am under the impression you can't just show up at any airport on any day without designating first...but I don't recall designating the POE and certainly not the date of entry.

1.  Yes -- envelope & visa are given together.

2.  If you're crossing by land, there are recommendations for scheduling.  If by air, the CBP stations at any POE will have appropriate personnel there to work with you.  No need to designate POE or entry date.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

You may have to search the forum. But I think I've read stories similar and they were okay. Can't remember what else they did though.

Ive contacted the embassy to see if I can get the paperwork resealed, but they only work through email so the wait game starts again. ugh I feel so dumb.

Any updates from people with how long it took them for the Employee Authorization form (if filed), permission to travel (if filed), and last but not least the actual greencard application?

EAD/AP takes about 4-6 months. The GC will depend on where you live and the address you listed when you filed. Some are quick within a few months and some can take over a year for your GC. Go here to get information on processing times in your area.
