Hello Everyone. Hope everyone's journey has been coming along okay. I would like to know what is the correct information on the transit visa situation. I want my fiance to fly KLM from Lagos with a stopover in Amsterdam. Now with the K-1 Visa do we need a Transit Visa or not? I read somewhere where someone needed a transit visa. Can someone tell me if we need this or not? Thank you in advance for your replies.

Here is what I found on lastminute.com:

"Nationals of Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Congo (Dem Rep), Eritrea, Ethiopia, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan and the Syrian Arab Republic passing through The Netherlands always require an airport transit visa even though they do not actually enter Dutch territory, unless holding a Residence Permit for the USA or EEA countries, UK or temporary residence permit for Canada and the USA, valid on the departure date from The Netherlands, with a confirmed onward ticket and are not leaving the transit lounge. Transit passengers are advised to check transit regulations with the relevant Embassy or Consulate before travelling"

Hope this helps :)

Sorry to invade on this topic, but I was JUST going to post a topic asking this same thing about London. Does anyone know if you need a transit visa through London? Some people said yes, and some said no. Does anyone have experience with this?

You will need a transit visa flying on KLM and Lufthansa. North American Airlines is the best route because their is a direct flight from Lagos to JFK in New York , and then you have to get a connecting flight to his final destination. The website is www.flynaa.com

Thanks for all the replies. I e-mailed KLM and they said he does not need a transit visa going through Amsterdam. I think we should be safe and fly North American Air straight through to JFK.

It seems too risky to send him through London, so we decided on Ghana nonstop to NY. It would've been a big hassle for him to get a UK visa and we were getting too many different responses.

Try and get a straight flight. I know when my parents were coming here through Amsterdam on KLM they needed transit visas (they were traveling on Ghanaian passports). Seems silly in the grand scheme of things but I guess rules are rules.

I cam to the US on a K1 visa through KLM and I was told at the KLM office in Lagos that I didn't need a transit visa and it was true. I wasn't asked for it in Amsterdam and everything went smoothly. I hope this reply helps. Bye

Please can some people quit giving wrong information. If you have not travelled on a K1 and been sent back then don't say you know the rules and whatnot. As long as you flying thru KLM and you have a valid resident visa for your final destination then you don't need a transit visa. You will not be going thru immigration so there will be no need for that. There is just too much mis-information on VJ.

My then fiance had a K1 and was flying through KLM and didn't get a transit visa. They didn't let him on the plane. We had to buy a whole new ticket. This time a direct flight. Now, he was going through South Africa, but officially, you need a transit visa. ALthough most people flying from Legos, through Amsterdam, on KLM are allowed to board a transit visa. But officially, you need one. Why risk it. I was out $1500 for my mistake.
