It means the day the order is put in for the document or card to be created. It is most definitely not sent out the same day so plan on waiting longer than normal.

In reality, "generated", "shipped", and "sent" all mean the same thing. It means somebody flipped a flag in a database saying it was ok for the next step to occur. Another department follows through with the needed action, like creating and mailing a document according to it routine work schedule. We don't have any window into those tasks or when they are comleted until we see a postmark on a delivered document.

The importance of NVC "generating" a document is that those using the shortcuts are then free to return the documentation they've prepared in advance, thereby shortcutting the process by the creation and mailing time.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous

It's used to refer to NVC updating your case file in its system and "generating" a particular NVC document to be sent to you. Documents are always "generated" by NVC on a Monday (although one usually doesn't know until the automated recording is updated at oh-dark-hundred the following Tuesday morning). However, the documents actually do not go out in the mail until up to 3 days later.

The term is also used to refer to creating or "generating" one's own version of that document using the shortcuts. This is also called "self-generation," an act which is performed by "self-generators." In the early days of the shortcuts, there were some who expressed fear at NVC discovering they were "self-generators."

Meh

Generally, generated means something is entered into NVC's system and NVC will mail that form to the choice of agent any day from the day of generation.

Three questions: If you have you case number: 1)Can you send the email to assign your Choice Agent before the DS3032 is actually generated by NVC? 2)Can you generate and send the IV bill also before its actually generated by NVC? 3)Does NVC mind these shortcuts and self generated processes?

Three answers:

1) No. But you can send email to assign your choice of agent ONLY AFTER NVC generates the DS 3032 (choice of agent).

2) No. Even you can not use any shortcut to send your IV Bill. You have to wait to receive it by mail from NVC, then send it.

3) NVC does not mind, if you use shortcuts ONLY AFTER NVC generates them. You can use shortcut for DS 3032, AOS Fee Bill, I-864, Ds 230, etc. You can not use shortcut for IV Fee Bill.

Hope my answers are helpful.
