Hi Everyone!

Interview was an awful experience. Lady called my name. I stood up and I asked her if she wanted my wife to join me for the interview. She said no thats fine and asked me to follow her to her office. I then stood up and raised my hand and promised to tel lthe truth. There was another guy there. Im not sure what he was doing there but it looked like he was either learning or supervising the interview. if anyone knows who this second person is. please let me know haha! The first thing she said was "we cannot do anything with your N-400 because your I-751 is still pending" so i said yes i understand. I saw both my N-400 and I-751 on the table in front of her. In fact she had all the documents i had ever sent to USCIS.

This lady didnt seem friendly at all! quite rude aswell and so now all im thinking is (uuuuuuuuuuughghghg this process is going to take even longer now that shes not even gonna do anything with both N-400 and I-751). Then she made another comment on the I-751 saying like "im gonna get through this N-400 and MAYBE ill have time to look at the I-751 ... but its very unlikely". my blood was boiling lol!

She then went over basic questions about the N-400 just making sure everything was ok. whats your name? whats your address? asked me questions about my parents etc. etc.

Then out of nowhere she starts asking me civics questions. doesnt even transition with like "ok now we are going to do the testing portion of the interview. she just immediately started asking questions... i was thrown off a little because i had no idea it was coming. i was prepared to review the N-400 some more.

I cant remember all the questions but ill try remember some of them.. i got only 6 questions because i got them all right.

1. who wrote the federalist papers

2. who is your states governer

3. what is the capital of USA

4. how many senators are there

I cant remember 5 and 6. She then asked me to read.. "Which state has the largest population?" so i read that correctly. then she wanted me to write down "California has the largest population." and i got that correct too.

First they asked me about my selective services registration and so i handed that to her.

Then started asking me questions about me and my wife and how we met and started asking why we dont have kids yet and stuff. I was kind of irritated because these are kind of personal questions. anyway.. we go through that.

So the N-400 interview was over and she basically looked at the other guy and said "since the I-751 is pending i cannot recommend this for approval and so i may have to go over the I-751"

Then she asked.. is my wife outside. So i said yes. (weird why she asked if my wife was outside when i introduced myself saying my wife is outside in the waiting room..... anyway..

They asked me to bring her in so i did that.

So we walked back in together and she was asked to stand and raise her hand and promise to tell the truth. We went over the I-751 and asked her questions about how we met. talked about kids again..... and financial stuff. she then asked what type of evidence we submitted for the I-751 and so i just said like car insurance, health insurance, cerdit cards ... stuff like that. then i asked her if i can give her the latest evidence because we actually just updated all of that recently and so i handed her the new documents.

One thing that im kind of nervous for is that they asked my wife if she knew what removal of conditions were. my wife had no idea. which is crazy haha because we did the I-751 together so im not sure why she forgot! so they explained to her what it was. I just hope they dont think i filed a false I-751 document since she had no clue what it was. she does now tho and does remember it lol! When we did the I-751 i filled out all the paperwork and did everything and told my wife about everything and all we really needed her to do was sign it. they even went over the I-751 in the I-485 interview so yea .. i dono. i just hope they dont see an issue with that.

Anyway so that pretty much ended the interiew and she ended off with saying " wait for something in the mail " and she handed me a paper that said I passed the interview but they cannot recommend me for approval............

So now im discouraged.... now we sit and wait.

This is all i can remember for now. maybe after i submit this ill start remembering more. oh and one more thing! they didnt ask for passport photos. what happened was when i arrived, they ask for your two index fingers to scan and then they take a picture.

Thats all i can remembe. Please anyone chime in and let me know how long i could be waiting for an answer??

Thanks!

I think that was probably an intern or new enoloyee shadowing her, and she had to be more thorough (or act more strict) for teaching purposes. Based on all you've said, you definitely passed the interview. Hopefully your wait for the Oath ceremony will be short!

Oh wow. thank you so much for your response. You made me feel so much better haha! im over here stressing. I just remember with my I-485 interview. I saw case updates on the same day.

Thanks so much for posting about your experience, I'm really bummed it wasn't an uplifting experience with a firm commitment on your oath ceremony.

From what you describe, it sounds like she was attempting to show a newbie IO the way to go about things, so maybe that's why she was harsh. Or maybe that's how she rolls! But it doesn't seem as if the guy in the room was nodding at her, giving her subtle encouragement like a supervisor might.

Bad form to not introduce the civics part, that would have thrown me too. I'm sure in the official example video from USCIS, the IO is at least pleasant. I may be wrong, but if memory serves, there is a pause between changing gears and going on to the next part of the interview.

I wouldn't worry too much about your wife not recalling the I-751 application, I'm sure they've seen plenty of forgetful spouses and it's the alien resident who's really under the spotlight. And don't forget, that she was with you is strong evidence, and this interview is the culmination of more than 3 years of married life - the IO had all of your supporting documentation from your entire USCIS history to bear this out, which includes your previous application approvals.

I'm such a private person, the personal questions asked during immigration interviews used to make me feel very uncomfortable. But, I remember at my K1 visa interview (at the London Embassy) practically yelling the answer to 'why do you love your fiance' through a bank-teller like glass pane with the next applicants sat behind me, no doubt hearing my every word. After that, I'm used to being asked the most sensitive of questions. Nowadays, I probably have to put the boundaries on myself. LOL.

It was helpful to know your question set and thanks confirming that you weren't asked for photos, I got my done at Walgreens today, just in case. :)

It sounds like you did everything right. You passed your N400, you provided all the evidences... from here on out, it's down to USCIS. Apart from bugging them (but I hope you get an update before it comes to that), there's nothing more you can do. They haven't asked for anything else. The waiting is excruciating, but we're all pros at it now.

I'll keep everything crossed that you get an update soon and have the date of your oath ceremony confirmed. You know I'll be bugging you for news!

Chin up, you're further along today than you were yesterday. Not the result I was hoping for, but it doesn't seem like there's anything more they need from you - no red flags or missing evidences, it's the usual system gripe of having the N400 interview before the i-751 is formally completed.

Yea its just weird because there is another San Diego Filer who had their Interview 01/02/2019 and are still waiting for their Oath. The thing is that their status changed shortly after their interview to approved. Where mine is still the same (Transfer\Interview Scheduled). @Xfiles had an interview in Tuscon, AZ and the sheet they were given after the interview said their case was recommended for approval where mine says they cannot make a decision yet. ugh... im going to into hiding for the next month.. 😧 12 more days for your interview right? Woop Woop!!

Hi Guys,

I applied for citizenship last Oct 2018. I just realized that I forgot to put a seasonal job I did back in 2014 from March to June at a store in Queens as a sales rep. My questions are; do I have to bring this up at the interview (I know they asked for all of your jobs in the last 5 years) but that was a couple months job that is why I did not put it in the application. How do I bring this up at the interview? What proof will I have to take to the interview?

Thanks Guys!

If anyone is interested.

USCIS has 120 days from the date of the initial naturalization interview to issue a decision. If the decision is not issued within 120 days of the interview, an applicant may request judicial review of his or her application in district court. The officer must base his or her decision on the laws, regulations, precedent decisions, and governing policies.

I would mention it and just appologize and say you forgot about it since it was so short. I don't see this being a big issue. Maybe just bring a W-2 or Checks\Paystubs from this job. Maybe even your tax returns showing this job as one of your employers\incomes

4 months? Ouch.

Has there been any change on either of your cases statues today?

Given your experience, and that of some others too, I've adjusted my outlook so that if I end up falling in the 'i-751 not approved before N400 interview' net I'll be expecting it. But I'm still hoping for the best! LOL. I have packed the formal confirmation of my combi interview (received from my local office after my inquiry, so not a standard letter) in case I need to query the i-751 if my interview goes the way of yours.

This must be so frustrating. We are very good at waiting though...
