cutting off your A/C won't really cut your gasoline consumption.

You have got to be kidding me. When A/C is on, my car consumes 20-30% more gas (tested.)

Should've bought a Honda. :P j/k

Hmmm...I know that Mythbusters also tested this myth and it got busted. What kind of car you got?

I seem to recall them re-doing it and confirming it. I love that show. Adam is a sex beast.

is he the bald one with the smallest cap?

He's the more verbally flamboyant one, but I wouldn't go as far as calling him a sex beast.

You must not have a thing for geeks, then. All the geek girls I know leave a snail trail for Adam Savage.

The red head girl on Mythbusters...now that's my cup-a-tea.

I don't see the point of saving a few pennies to put my wife and family through hell-firing heat and the humidity of the summer in Philly and the Northeast. Keep the windows up and blast the cold sweet air conditioner.

I don't the point of correcting other's driving habit because: There are two types of drivers speeder and snailer! BUT speeders are "Look at that maniac" and snailers are "Look at this idiot"! You are the most tolerable driver on the road compare to everyone else!

I don't see the point of putting cheap gas in a good car, hoping to save a few bucks when it was perfectly OK to buy an expensive car but not treat it right! The truth is, the difference between Regular and Premium works about to be about $2-3 different!

I don't see the point of buying a tiny little car so your hold family will be cramped up inside just for the sake of efficiency!

I don't sacrifice my personal comfort for any ridiculous idealist!

Stop whining about gas price, nobody makes a change in their driving pattern, nor they will stop driving. I love my cars and SUV. So what it's $5/gal, tell me if you have a choice between driving or walking.

I must agree with consolemaster, take out the junk in your trunk which reminds me I need to get the fireproof safe out of my SUV today. It's been in there for a week now. Look at all the gas I've been wasting. Oh well, the safe is too heavy for me to carry in the house by myself, it can wait until Sat.

I don't know if I'm all up for re-cranking my engine every time I stop for more than 1min. I like to cool off my car in the summer for when Kim gets inside the car, it's nice! I also like to have the car "preheat" nice and toasty in the winter. There goes my saving, again!

The bottom line is: nobody will give up the comfort to save a few bucks. Personally, it's not worth it to me!

Some people are more frugal in general than others. Most Americans don't put enough money into savings for that very reason.

Myth Busters are not scientists...just experienced stunt choreographer. The one that comes closest is that Asian Electrical Engineer.

Used to have a crush on Keri. Remembered the episode when Adam had to mold her butt for some pseudo experiment.

most cars or trucks will do perfectly fine with the low grade regular unleaded fuel. Really only the high performance cars (sport cars, luxury cars etc) say they *need* the higher grade, higher priced fuels. If you're putting the high grade fuel in your four banger, you're just throwing money away needlessly. Its not going to make your car run any better or more efficiently. Even most "performance" cars will not be negatively affected by switching to the cheaper low grade fuel. You'll save yourself a few bucks per tank (depending on the size of your tank, and gas price of course), which is money to put away for your next tank of gas. Or a lottery ticket. ;)

You can reduce your fuel usage just by making sure your car is tuned up regularly, with regular service. Whether you do it yourself or take it to a shop, changing the oil when you should, plus checking air filters, and spark plugs, tire pressure, etc will keep your car running to optimal performance. There are also spark plugs on the market now that claim to improve gas mileage up to 10% in most vehicles, improve your horsepower, and save on emissions by up to 20%. I'm going to check these out next time my car is in for service.
