Timeline

Don't see Ghana on here so here it is people:

(1) Ghana was the first sub-saharan country to gain independence (March 6, 1957 from Britain)

(2) Ghana's capital city of Accra boasts about 500 internet cafes

(3) August 4, 1974, Sunday: Ghana started driving on the right

(4) Cadbury -- one of Britain's largest chocolate-makers, imports 90% of its cocoa from Ghana

(5) Flight-Lieutenant Rawlings was Africa's first military ruler to hand power to an elected president (24th Sept 1979)

(6) Seventy nine languages are spoken in Ghana with over 100 cultural groups

(7) Former UN Sectretary General Kofi Annan is from Ghana

(8) W.E.B. Du Bois was invited to Ghana in 1961 by President Kwame Nkrumah to direct the Encyclopedia Africana, a government production, and a long-held dream of his. When, in 1963, he was refused a new U.S. passport, he and his wife, Shirley Graham Du Bois, became citizens of Ghana, making them dual citizens of Ghana and the United States.

(9) The Volta Lake in Ghana is the largest reservoir in the world

(10) Despite the civil wars and unrest in neighboring countries (Togo, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast) over the years Ghana has managed to remain peaceful.

That is all I can think of now.

Germany germany.jpg
  • Approximately the size of Montana with about 85 Million in population and consists of 16 States. Probably the most commonly known State is Bayern (famous for yodeling and leiderhosen - South Germany) - most populated State is NRW (Nordrhein-Westfalen) which includes Koln, Dusseldorf and other major cities.
  • Shares a similar Longitude with northern US and southern Canada.
  • Most modern city is Frankfurt - sometimes referred to as Bankfurt or ManFrankfurt because of its high concentration of modern skyscrapers and International & European banks.
  • Most common vehicle driven - VW (pronounced fow-V) followed by (of course) BMW, Mercedes and Opel.
  • Famous for Autobahns - however only about 15% of Germany's Autobahns are limit-free (no speed limit). However they do have some great driving laws - such as all (I mean ALL) slower driving traffic must be in the Far Right lane unless passing (no driving in the middle lane even if the road is empty). Tickets can be frequent (for the unadvised) and usually paid on the spot in cash.
  • Schnitzel is very common and found nearly everywhere.
  • There is no such thing as German Chocolate Cake in Germany.
  • Häagen-Dazs icecream is neither German - nor has any meaning in the German language - it's closer to dutch, but has no meaning there either

*Based from memory - not an encyclopedic claim to accuracy

Anything about Bavaria? What about those little Hansel and Gretel houses?
