Algerie:

I did not know ....

they have do-it-yourself hospitals here

you get nothing done with bribing every people that touches your case (whatever you want to get done...even getting admitted to the hospital)

things that normally take a day or 2 in the US here, take months

people have no sense of rules, laws or common courtesy

...i could write more *nice* things but i might offend someone...

Actually, average discharge is 219 MILLION litres per second so I'm guessing you meant a figure more like 17.5 TRILLION litres per day.

Now I know that this will shatter everyone's perception of good ole' Germany but the Oktoberfest is NOT a German tradition. Nor are Lederhosen anything that is to be associated with Germany.

Well, after 5 years as a "permanent resident" of Munich (which should underline the Bavarians' sense of heritage and pride for their state, which is only one of Germany's 16 states) I must say the Oktoberfest is a nice tradition of the Munich people, started with a big party cause their prince or so got married. And Bavarians traditional clothings are Lederhosen and Dirndl, I myself bought one for my time as a student there to blend in during Oktoberfest :D OH god I MISS IT! *sigh*

I think right now Germany's favorite pets are cats. Can't find the source though, read it on the plane.... :luv:

Health Insurance. What the Germans call Krankenversicherung is mandatory.

Brazilians love to stand in lines... Whenever they can...

They would have had fun in the GDR (former Eastern Germany). Lots of fun. Lots of lines. ;)

Germany germany.jpg

  • Approximately the size of Montana with about 85 Million in population and consists of 16 States. Probably the most commonly known State is Bayern (famous for yodeling and leiderhosen - South Germany) - most populated State is NRW (Nordrhein-Westfalen) which includes Koln, Dusseldorf and other major cities.
  • Shares a similar Longitude with northern US and southern Canada.
  • Most modern city is Frankfurt - sometimes referred to as Bankfurt or ManFrankfurt because of its high concentration of modern skyscrapers and International & European banks.
  • Most common vehicle driven - VW (pronounced fow-V) followed by (of course) BMW, Mercedes and Opel.
  • Famous for Autobahns - however only about 15% of Germany's Autobahns are limit-free (no speed limit). However they do have some great driving laws - such as all (I mean ALL) slower driving traffic must be in the Far Right lane unless passing (no driving in the middle lane even if the road is empty). Tickets can be frequent (for the unadvised) and usually paid on the spot in cash.
  • Schnitzel is very common and found nearly everywhere.
  • There is no such thing as German Chocolate Cake in Germany.
  • Häagen-Dazs icecream is neither German - nor has any meaning in the German language - it's closer to dutch, but has no meaning there either

*Based from memory - not an encyclopedic claim to accuracy
