Can't figure out how to edit my last post, but I already called and answered my own question. The latest day you can book medical for that interview date is Nov. 7th. Didn't sound like they had too many appointments open, so I rec. booking asap if you need one and don't want to be in Montreal longer.

Hey Courtney, congrats on your interview date! I was wondering about the medical. You said the latest you could book for the medical was the 7th for your 13th interview. Does that mean only if you wanted to do them both at the same time in Montreal? For example, if we get an interview date for December as opposed to spending a week in Montreal waiting for the medical then the interview, we could just go to a different civil surgeon correct? Book the one in Surrey a couple weeks before the interview? Does that make sense? I am assuming you wanted to do your wife's medical and the interview all at once in Montreal, but we don't have to right?

I’m Katrina - I’m the Canadian wife 😊 and my husband is already in the States... I’ve got my medical booked in Toronto for Oct 22 - they were super accommodating (and apparently the medical takes 2 hours).  The doc in Toronto told me that they need 10 days to process the paperwork for my medical afterwards - I don’t know if it is the same in Montreal.  I’m lucky I’m in southwestern Ontario, as Toronto is only a few hours.

Does anyone know how long Montreal usually takes to get back the passports?

Does anyone know if you have to physically pick up the medical results or they get mailed to you? I’m wondering because I’m in Ottawa but have family in Toronto and thought about doing my medical there a few weeks before my interview, once I get a date, instead of going to Montreal twice (even though Montreal is closer).

The places I called in Toronto said I had to pick them up physically and the wait is 10 business days - I was also visiting family, however ten business days is crazy. I decided to go with Montreal because they are faster, then train to Toronto to visit for the 5 days in between that and my interview!

Hey Lauren,

Yes, you're correct, you could go elsewhere and earlier (I think 6 months is the cutoff). We live in Calgary and the only medical approved places are in Van, Toronto, and Montreal (maybe also Ontario? Either way, no where close to us). So yes, for us doing it in one go was necessary. But unlike other places such as Van, who will give back results immediately/same day, Montreal has a min. of 3 biz days (can't believe Toronoto is 10!) So we will fly in a week early, factoring in the weekend. Hope that helps.

Wow, ok that’s good to know!

I guess I’ll be making the drive twice, which isn’t a big deal. I realize I’m super fortunate to be able to get to Montreal in 2 hours! Makes things simpler.

My CC date is August 14. My husband, and I were starting to lose hope, till I read this forum!

I'll be calling the NVC tomorrow morning hoping to inquire about my interview date status.

I will keep everyone updates as well.

I made this account to thank you everyone for sharing dates, and positivity!

Sending everyone good vibes to those who are still waiting,

And best wishes to everyones interviews!

Is case complete when NVC accepts all documents?

Thanks for the response! That is what we received! Just can't wait to get that interview date now. I am suspecting it will be January.

Next step is medical, correct? Do we pay any fees?

Good luck to you as well.

Medical can only be done once you know your interview date. The fee varies a little depending on where you go, but it's around $350-$450ish for that - plus the cost of getting to Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal (unless you're lucky enough to live near one of the approved medical centres!)

Okay, since this is the week of good news I thought I would share this with everyone.

Did everyone here know that you can apply for Employment Insurance when you move? There's a thread in the Canadian forums that outlines it pretty well (go to the last page and someone did an excellent summary) I'm not an expert, but I wanted to pass along that this is a possibility. Just in case any of you have been stressing a little over money (like my husband and I have) :)

Also, has anyone received the email about the interview yet? I need to bring mine to my medical exam and am getting stressed lol

The last page of what? I’ve never heard about this, and would be interested in what it has to say.

Also, does anyone know anything about filing for Canada “departure tax”?

anyways TNN, can you send a copy of the link to that EI article or the exact name of the thread that has the link?

update: tried to find it and I found a link from 2006, is that the one you were seeing? If so, that info would need to be seriously double checked since it’s so old. I’m gonna do what I can to look into this and see if it’s legit.

Luckily my husband lives in Montreal. So good that he doesn't have to fly anywhere. Looks as though Montreal has the longest wait to get an interview....
