Got my interview date!!!! January 11th at 7:30 a.m. , cc date sept 21st.

Could anyone who has an interview in December do me a huge favor and ask if they ever make a special exception to let someone pick up a passport instead of waiting in the mail? I have a trip overseas booked, and the last possible date I could get my passport is the 16th... which seems impossible if I had to wait for it in the mail, although I’m in Ottawa just two hours from Montreal so it wouldn’t need to go very far.

YAY!! Finally.

Hi Alyssamac90. I had my interview on 20 Nov, before the strike was legislated to end. The immigration Officer said I needed a compelling reason to pick up my passport at the Consulate. I explained that I couldn’t travel south last Christmas to see my granddaughter because my Visa was in process, and that if I didn’t get my passport in time I would miss the second Christmas with my wife and family. She relented and gave me an orange pass to let me into the Consulate once she phoned me within 3-5 days that the Visa had been entered. At that point I was willing to drive 16 hours there and back to have it in hand.  The next thing I got 9 days later was an email from the State Dept saying that my document had been released to Canada Post. The same day (30 Nov) CP sent me a tracking number, with an estimated delivery date of 04 Dec. Each day since then the delivery date slides out another day (sometimes 2 or 3 at a time) and as of this morning shows 13 Dec delivery. I’ve called 4 times and spoken to 3rd level supervisors, all of whom sympathise with my plight, but indicate that their contract with the US Consulate does not allow them to intercept a package en route, and because of the backlog, they won’t “burden” the depot with any request for pickup at the depot, even if there wasn’t a contractual obligation. So my document was scanned into a facility yesterday which is less than a 45 minute drive from me, but I can’t get it until it’s delivered by the motivated Postal Professionals, whenever the hell they decide to get off their “work to rule” asses. Now by January the backlog may be cleared and it will be a whole different kettle of fish.

I know that’s not what you wanted to hear, but because of your plans I wanted to share my situation with you. Good luck.

Hi,

Yes, it’s in Montreal. I forgot to change the default consulate on the timeline. Just updated it now.

Thanks for catching this.

Question, what size do the passport pics have to be for Montreal medical? I see that they have to be 2x2 for the visa interview but what about the medical? I’m at Costco and there are different Sizes for Canada and U.S so I don’t know.
