Thanks for the update!

Also, to the rest of you, when you got an interview date, was it both the petitioner and applicant who got the email or just the applicant?

We both got it and in the "To:" had both of our emails CC'd. Also, I kept checking the CEAC website and that's how I noticed we had our interview assigned. The status changed from at NVC to something else. The email didn't come for several days later. Butttt when I noticed the change in status on the website they gave me the interview date over the phone so I could start making plans (our interview date was super close to when it got actually assigned)

Thanks so much! So on CEAC, in the top right hand corner where mine says “your case is currently at: NVC” will change to say something else when I get a date?

You can also check via the "View My Immigrant Case Status" option on the CEAC page! :D

However, keep in mind this will change a few days after they actually schedule, so to be up to date I would call NVC to confirm if a date has been released. Good luck guys!

Congratulations! What was the date that you received your interview date? If I recall at 10 weeks you still hadn't heard anything. Wishing you the best on the 9th!!

If I remember correctly I literally heard within a day or two of week 11. But I feel like I was one of the longer waits and they(MTL) started getting caught up after me because some of the others on here got dates after 8 weeks of waiting, and I was just as happy for them! I wouldn’t wish 11+ weeks of waiting on anyone...first world problem, I know, but still sucked!

Well, my interview is in 2 days, Nov 9th, I’ll be posting any info afterwards.

ive come to the conclusion that it’s out of my control at this point so I’m not gonna stress...I’ve either got everything I need or I don’t, simple as that.

ill let everyone know what I can find out as far as helpful hints and tips.

This is site has helped me more than my lawyer, for the most part!

To those waiting, hang in there and enjoy the fact that life isn’t moving at 1000 mph...cause when you get your date it suddenly does! And its gonna happen soon!

you mentioned two types of police clearance checks? I only have the finger print based police clearance check, which is the one I submitted online. Is that the updated version? cause Im not sure if I'll have time to retrieve the other one considering my interview date is on the 16th. Was it the name based police clearance check the older one?

Thanks for taking the time to inform everyone and hopefully they send the passport/visa asap 💞

There are two types: certified and non-certified(privacy act)

The one that was implemented in September was the ‘non certified/privacy act’ version which searches all criminal records, including records that have been expunged. This version caused some confusion when rolled out as the new expectation. On this version, when you get it, it specifically states “non certified”...and “privacy act” is also somewhere on there(sorry, haven’t looked at mine in a while).  Those of us that filed for this one had the results within 6-10 business days it seemed.

the other version, the “certified” check is the one with the prints, the more common way to have a background check done prior to September’s new guidelines.

Most commissionaires offices’ are probably familiar with this now, thanks to the new changes having been in place for almost 2 months now.

hope that helps

hello everyone! my husband just had his interview this morning at 9am (eastern) and got his "Welcome to the United States" letter!!! I was unable to go to Montreal with him due to time constraints (interview was scheduled about 2 weeks ago). He flew in last night from Vancouver, checked into the hotel had a sleepless anxious night (as did I!!!!) and got to the consulate at 8:05 am.  He was called to hand in the papers at around 9:20 am (the longest wait was to turn these in). Waited for a little bit for the interview and the interview only took 5 minutes. In and out by 10 am. He said everyone was super friendly (including the guards) and the lady that interviewed him was very appreciative that he brought all of the necessary documents, copies, and then some (my OCD organized it all and put post-its to make it dummy proof). Due to his job he cannot stick around and wait for his passport so we have opted to still have it delivered regardless of how long it takes.

just some notes:

He had BOTH types of police reports, our case was done online before they changed the rules about the police reports. Luckily we were able to get the second one in time. The interviewer took both and was pleased he had them both done.

The questions they asked were super easy, how did we meet? when did we meet? have you ever been out of North America in the past 5 years? No curve ball questions.

This was the easiest part of the ENTIRE visa process. But I will tell you that even though we read all of the reviews online, were 100% prepared with extra information in case they asked, and were completely aware this would be a breeze, it was still the most stressful part. I was sick to my stomach with anticipation, anxiety, etc. I am so glad this is done and over with!

Thanks for the details! Our interview date is Nov 27th. I had no idea there were multiple police checks. We just went to the  local police station in Windsor, ON. And they gave us a mailed police clearance with a seal. How could I confirm which type of report I have? How do I verify and validate that I have the correct one?

Now I m concerned we don’t have the correct police clearance:-(

thanks for any help you can give

Thanks for clearing things up, I have checked my current options and I'll have to request for a criminal background check (by name/date of birth) in Montreal when I get there tomorrow. Im relieved that their processing time is 24 to 48 hours with the Corps des Commissionnaires du Québec. But I will call to confirm with them.

and best wishes on your interview

They switched to the non-certified (name/birth) 2 months ago... so most of us had the certified (finger print) based criminal background checks prior when submitting online forms, but in case for the interview its best to bring both...

Hi guys:

so so where does one go to acquire this new, “one that was implemented in September was the ‘non certified/privacy act’ version which searches all criminal records, including records that have been expunged.”

do I get this at the police dept? Or somewhere else?

Call the “commissionaires office” in your area. I used one in London Ontario, but all of them should be familiar with it.

The police department may not be 100% familiar since this privacy act isn’t the typical way to have the checks done.  Regardless, from my understanding, they all come from the RCMP so doesn’t matter where you go as long as you get the correct one(s)

check this thread :) hopefully it helps. I know I read somewhere that the consulate took the Privacy Act one from them and not the older one that shows the fingerprints etc. In our case the consulate took both. The one we submitted online was the "old" required one which had the fingerprints on it. But they changed the rules September 16th to be a new check under the Privacy Act. I think we got the report in like 10 days (maybe more, maybe less) after he went to the station to get it.
